Converting to new refrigerant

i've got a 92 C2 cab and the A/C has quit...ALL servos work....the lines look like they are good shape....do i have to change the gaskets to accept the new refrigerant? or should it work in all the factory lines.....i know that R 134a (i think that's the name) is different than the old stuff and heard it's hard on the lines.....any truth to that?

There are many threads on R-12 to R-134 refrigerant on the main tech forum. If your system is good, you are largely better off staying with R-12. The conversion isn't really hard on the lines (it's just refrigerant), but it is harder on the compressor. You should also change oil and flush the system, replace the receiver/dryer.

It is illegal to manufacture new R-12. It can be recovered, reprocessed and sold by licensed AC techs. And it is spendy. So you really want to make sure you system does not leak before recharging it.
