Engine drop with Sears ATV jack need help
Whoever has dropped their engine with a sears ATV jack please help me. Tommorow i want to drop my engine finally, I AM TERRIFIED!!! The ATV jack is going to go under the engine basically towards the front but not under the transmission. Its the only way i can see how to utilize it. Im worried about the engine rotating downward (the transmission rotating down and hitting the floor) because the transmission itself will just be hanging off the front of the jack. Can you picture what i am saying. So if anyone has used one of these can you tell me how you did it.

You are looking for the CG of the engine/tranny. Engine is heavier than tranny. So your balance point is aft of the bell housing.
Try a few searches here and on rennlist on engine drop and you'll see plenty of pictures. Good luck and take pics!

Wouldn't it be easier to drop the engine and tranny as one piece? You will have a heck of a time trying to realign the clutch and tranny with the tranny still in the car.
Make sure you have a 3'x3' piece of 1/2" to 3/4" plywood. Place that on your atv jack and the heat exchangers will sit securely on the plywood. Don't try to jack the car up high then try to lower the engine. That places the engine at an angle and it makes it precarious and dangerous. I merely jack up my car just high enough the slide the jack under the heat exchangers. Everything is already disconnected except for the engine mount and tranny mount bolts. I slowly remove them and the engine is now supported by the atv jack. I then carefully start jacking up the car and lift up the chassis but the engine stays safely on the atv jack. I found my jack didn't lift the chassis high enough for the bumper to clear the top of the engine. So I placed a three and half to maybe four foot 4x4 on the seam at the firewall and jacked from the middle of the car. This will give you the extra few inches needed to clear the bumper and you won't waste time removing the bumper. Once you are high enough just slide the atv jack back and there you have your beautiful engine and tranny ready for maintenance.
