Build a turbo or Buy a turbo, That is the question!

I currently have a 1989 964 C4. I recently replaced the stock motor with a 1993 RSA motor with 35k on the motor after blowing up my stock engine on a mis-shift. I love the look of the 964 and want to add more power. I have a steve wong chip, I am going to put a full B&B system in (waiting for the system to arrive). I looked at superchargers they seem very interesting, but I am uncertain as to the performance of such a system and the cost vs building a turbo VS buying a turbo.

So my question is should I consider building a turbo motor for my 964 or should I sell my 964 and buy a turbo (930, 993tt or 996tt)? I guess the cost would range. Can anyway give me some suggestions or insight?

My general use of the car is street use but I can't rule out that I might consider taking the car to the track in the future. But the cars main use would be street.

Thanks for your time and help!

Mechanically the turbos are very different cars. Brakes and suspension are different, the engine has a lower compression ratio, etc. Turboing a na motor has its set of challenges.

If you want a sleeper (stock 964 nb car), putting a turbo in is neat.

If you like the look (wb) and want to keep the car's resale value, look for a factory turbo.

Suggest you search on the main board for "poorb0yw" (example here) to see an amazing turbo project.

I guess the building of a turbo will hurt the cars re-sale value - But buying a turbo will hurt my wallet equally if not MORE! LOL

My goal is to get more power out this motor (Turbo or NA) But i'm at the point where there are no more direct bolt on item out side of a Supercharger, there to be mixed opinion about superchargers.

Any suggestion for my motor? I would like to be in the 350hp to the wheels.

How much weight have you removed from the car? This can offer same means to the end (+ power to weight).

My car has 275 wrhp and weighs about 2200 lbs. removing back seats, FG bumpers, maybe AC removal would be worth a few hundred lbs, likely.

i agree, you will be suprised after you add B&B (25+ hp), with chip and airbox you will be around 250 rwhp give or take lose a few lbs and your power to weight ratio will be good!

I am considering put recaro seats in. So if I changed out my front bumper and removed my back seats along side the new front seats I will gain the advantage of less weight which will equal more speed. Thus I would need less HPs to go fast. any suggestions on the seats?
