Help with Lock problem
I have a 1993 964 c2.
Problem I have been had been having weird locking problems with my driver's side door. When i put the key in the cylinder it would spin a complete 360 degrees. I was still able to lock/unlock the door so i figured i would wait until something else happened before tackling the problem. Well something else happened. I went to lock the car the other day and put the key in the lock cylinder turned the key, nothing happened, car wouldn't lock. I went to pull the key out of the lock cylinder and the whole lock cylinder came out of the door... I thought that was a little odd... I did notice on the back of the lock cylinder that it had interior threading. my assumption is the bolt/screw which holds the cylinder in the door unscrewed and has fallen into the door itself. Any thoughts?? I am going to take the door apart this weekend but wanted to know if i should just be replacing the cylinders or whether i may not need to. Thanks.

Pull the door panel off, and look in the bottom of the door. More than likely all of the parts for the lock are down there. It can be a bit of a pain to get them all back together, but should work normall when you do. When mine did that it did break the little switch for the power locks, but you can still order any little part for the handle individually. Good luck.

How about some thread lock when we re-assemble to prevent that from happening again? Any other ideas for a more permanent fix.
Removing and re-installing that black plastic protector that is screwed to the door jam was real fun. Could not get to the rear door handle retaining nut with it in the way. My boogered-up door lock screw head indicated to me that this was a previous problem on my car. Greased by rattling window regulator tracks while I was in there. Made the whole effort that much more fruitful. Rick 93 RS America |

I used the mild thread lock on mine. 3 years on, no problems
