Yes.
I bought the CD220 from Stephan at SW Stereo. I believe that something was done to the LED/LCD display so that it is visible since it is installed at a different height than it would be in a newer 911. That said, the first install was done using the Porsche amp located under the seat. Stephan made a plug and play cable for that. It did not work well, too much engine/ground noise. So, I asked Stephan to make a second cable that would use the CD220's built-in amp and bypass the Porsche amp. This works much better. I took the Porsche amp out and terminated the power cord, rolled up the original wires just in case somebody wants to return this car to stock form. The sound is decent, it will never be great in a 964 but this is much better than the stock cassette player. Do not forget to buy an Aux input cable so that you can use your iPod. Good luck. |

I'll second everything that Douglas mentioned. In addition, replacing the stock door speakers with 6.5" components (most brands will fit without cutting, Infinity, MB Quart, Focal are the usuals), plus add an amplifier, and you will get surprisingly good sound as well as reasonable bass.
You definitely don't want to use the factory amp no matter what- the internal amp in the '220 is much better.
