Bill,

Why didn't you use the 86+ knee pads? Cost is about the same and you can retain the ashtray for the smokers.

You need the '87 up knee pads, I've looked everywhere for the past 2 months for them, couldn't find a set in decent condition. The Rennline part was actually much cheaper than people were asking for so/so stock '87 up kneepads.

I have never used or been in a position to have an ash tray used in my cars. It was a bit harder to give up the glove compartment but in the end I accepted the compromise

BTW the knee pads are supposed be ~18#s lighter than the stock 993 versions. We'll see

Guess I got lucky finding mine for a good for around $160. The knee pads are indeed lighter than the stock version. Empty stock ones weight 14lbs. Including the stuff I have in the glove compartment and change in the ashtray, it was over 20lbs.

Sorry to hijack but I could not post this pic in a PM.

Bill, what is the 993 I have circled? I don't believe I have ever seen one like that.

Enjoying your car build, BTW.

Bill, can you post how you've modded your interior and how much weight you have saved?
Thanks.

yes, here's the trial install of the floorboards, trackmats were installed last summer

net wt gain of ~1# because there was nothing on the drivers side, I got tired of the g/f complaining about sticky shoes

Awesome... I miss my 993 soooo much. If things go well this year, I hope to own one again.

It's going to be tough to replace your old 993

Any tips? There are 2 of us up here doing this over the winter

Especially the transmission. Where did it end up? Is it still in the car? I hope you'll be in a nice 993 soon!

Cheers,

George

Nice to see the black Rennline stuff instead of the bright Al. Is this anodized or painted? Do you save weight over the wood floor boards?

George

When I look under my dash, there are all sorts of colorful wires and things. Is some of this stuff concealable? I just ordered the piece from Rennline and I hope it goes well..

project continues, there are a lot of decisions to make
I thought about stripping a stock rear shelf and laying the carpet over that

here's a trial fit

just MO but it looks too high and the carpet doesn't fit well at the edges soooo...

second try w/ .50" jute, too low, add another .25" layer and that looks to be pretty good. next the sides

Where did the carpet kit come from ?
I'm doing the Rennline lower dash as well but covered in leather. and a concealed USB port.

Very good job on your car.

I have been experimenting w/ different configs for the rear area

I don't think i'll keep it but retaining the stock sides and just carpeting the center is a possibility
