What shift knob is this ? RS ?

I have a shift knob that I got over at LAPD it was too good to pass up and the price was right.

It's a weighted shift knob...heavier and thicker than the normal shift knob.
Figured it would be an upgrade to the car.

I looked all over and found photos of it on RS models and some 965 Turbos... I also saw it in 6 speed form.
but I couldn't find anything in P.E.T. I did find a thicker bushing that is most likely for it on pet.

I'm looking for info ...maybe an article on benefits or what it is...ect
I plan to use it on my 1990 Carrera 2 that I am slowly converting to RS specs.

thanks guys

Don't have a pic of mine, but I went to the RS knob from the C4 knob. The RS is the exact opposite - super lightweight and just sorta presses on. C4 knob is surprisingly heavy. To be honesty, I bet it was made heavy to prevent rattling and possibly improve shift feel.

Here is a stock pic of the RS shifter, for reference:

No the Shift knob is a 5 Speed !!! and it was not tampered with.

I saw photos of this knob on actual 964 RS models... like Euros n stuff...

I need to get to the bottom of this: I should call The Scooby gang to solve this Mystery

the stock units weight is 0.30 and the other one is .85

The stitching on the left is nothing like factory.

Well, I learn something every day. The stitching on the right looks much cleaner.

Another bit of info.......I added the weighted shifter to my C2 993. I was able to find it new on Ebay but was not sure what model it originally came in. It is definitely a Porsche part. I think the extra weight does improve the shift feel.

Ah, I have an idea...

I have an aftrermarket knob on my 968. It was really lightweight (as is the factory 993 RS piece) and the leather and stitching were not as high quality as factory. It was purchased through Paragon Products (recommended) and made by Alan Gunn (AGLA - definitely not recommended). You probably have a similar one.

Also note that my previous piuc of the RS knob, as well as talking about mine, were all referring to the 993 RS instead of 964 RS.

Should have also mentioned that the underside of yours looks just like my 993 6spd version. Yours is definitely a Porsche part.

I have a 90 C4 and changed to the weighted shifter like the one that you have in the picture. I cut the straight part of the rubber insert off the original boot, and forced it inside the 993 shifter housing, and pushed it back on. It is nice and tight, no problems and the weighted shifter feels much better.

So we have established that the 6spd version of this weighted shifter came in the AWD 993 models but still need to figure out which 964 models it was in. Anyone know?

Hi.

I also cut the old rubber inner boot from The original knob in to a small piece to make it feel snug. But I now ordered the actual insert that goes in side from Porsche.

Yes! We need to find out what model this knob came on for 964 5 speed !

My knob is factory stitched not aftermarket ... But wouldnt mind having it recovered in Alcantara.
