Turn Signal, High Beam Switch Problem
I''ve got a 93 911 with a 4 arm steering column mounted switch assembly(turn signal, wiper, cruise control and on board computer). The problem is with the turn signal high beam switch. The headlights will go out completely occasionally. The low to high beam function works. Typically the headllights will go out and I can very lightly put my hand on the switch and pull it forward and the lights will operate again. I had a similar problem on an earlier 911 switch and was able to bend a couple small contact fingers which solved the problem. This later switch is sealed with metal rivets and looks like it's a bear to get into. Any way to "fix" this problem. This switch isn't that old and too expensive new. Thanks in advance. Bill

Bill, I'm having the exact same issue right now, instead my low beams are gone but I have an intermittent high beam switch. I also noted no replies to your thread which is so unlike the Pelican Forum but maybe, just maybe, someone might answer your question (which then answers mine).

These units have a tendency to fail regarding the high low beam just as the earlier cars had the contacts that would bend. I actually drilled out the rivets and reworked the switch and it has been working fine for a number of years however it is not for the faint of heart or nervous DYIer. It can get tricky you need three hands or skill but can be repaired. Although I honestly don't recall what I actually did since it is going back a number of years and have done so many things on these cars over the years it all gets foggy lately. I have picked up a spare unit just in case. Occasionally you can find them on ebay cheap.
Just remember to disconnect the battery for 30 minutes before disconnecting the air bag and it doesn't hurt to take pictures as you go in case you forget how they go back.
