993 rust?

Has anyone ever had rust bubbling under the paint on their 993, specifically near the edge of the windshield or rear window? I found some at the base of the windshield under the rubber trim at the bottom of the glass...near the wipers.
If anyone has ever experienced this, let me know how extensive the work was to repair it, and what the cost was.

Thanks!

very common, expense depends on how far it's progressed.

Is it because of the alleged reaction that the glue had with the paint near the windshield, or is it just because that strong windshield rubber seal traps in the moisture very well?

They all get it. Bubbled around the front windshield on both of my 993's, bottom of window on one, and top on the other. I was fortunate to have the dealer cover one of them during the last month of the body warranty. I thnk I paid about $600 all in, including having the local safelite guy remove the windshield.

Lucky! I was quoted at between $2400-3800 depending if they have to replace the windshield with a new one. I guess they need to remove the windshield to get at the rust/bubbling under the windshield trim, and in some cases, they need to cut the windshield to remove it. A new windshield for a 993 is $1200!!! Couldn't believe that!
Oh well...I guess the costs of having the finest (and sexiest) vehicle ever made!

Cheers!

New windshields are not $1200, more like 600-700 from Sunset.

Hey Chris, how's the new car? I just had this done on my 95. I had the rear window removed at the same time to correct a similar problem. $1200 CDN is right about what mine cost. Insurance covered the cost of the windshield and installation, I paid the rest. About $600ish for the front in my case.

Yes windhields are cheaper from Sunset (just like everything!) but shipping/duty/taxes etc will bring that cost up real quick.

Give me a ring or email.

prevent rust?

I pulled the rear shelf out yesterday to do some speaker work and found a small pool of water under the rear passenger corner. No rust yes, so how can I seal this area so no rust forms?
thanks, Michael
