930 vs 965 decklid: what's different??

Supposedly a 930 tail & decklid will not bolt up to a 965 (turbo '91-94) decklid: does anyone know why?

Thanks, Mark

The hinges are different. It can be done but fabrication is required.

The air dam inside the lid is different as the intercooler is different size, also the wiper motor is mounted in the lid of the 930 and the 965 is mounted thru the glass (I think). Hinges are different as Paul said

Mark are you talking just the lid or the lid and wing combined. I don't know about the wing but there is basically no difference in the lid. I have a 930 deck lid I was planning on mounting a factory 964 turbo S wing to and everything appears to line up perfectly. There are some minor differences but mounting points are the same as my 94. The 964 n/a hinges are different but the turbos are similar along with the deck lid used on the RSA.

I need both the wing & the decklid: which is unique to the '91-94 965's according to both PET & a few who have chimed in.

Yes, I need both.

I know a 964 wing will bolt up to a 930 lid and the 930 lid will bolt up to a 964 turbo. I don't have any proof other than this wing is a factory original 964 turbo S wing and it bolts up perfectly to the 930 lid. The shrouds inside are different for the Turbo S wing as they are for the 930 and 964T. Although all of that is part of the wing itself. So a 964 wing on a 930 lid should work or just eliminate the shrouds.

Here are the best pictures i have of a 964 turbo lid and a 930 turbo lid from underside. As you can see they are quite similar in overall configuration.

Thanks Anthony, great info.

So, do my hinges stay the same? If so, that makes it easier. I still have my 965 under-tail intercooler shroud I'd reuse.

Anthony, is there the same compatibility between the latch striker on the 930 deck lid and the 964 deck lid?

I will try to take some close up pictures for you guys that might help more. The striker latch would have to be swapped. The 964 hinges will adjust to fit the 930 lid. I think the pictures will tell you more. I should have something for you by tomorrow.

pictures

So I was able to take some comparison photos and the only differences I can find are in the area of the latch. It would appear they reinforced the latch area with a larger plate and light. Otherwise all the mounting points an general shape are identical.

Here are the pictures let me know if you see anything I might have missed.

As you can see they are quite similar and even the mounting holes line up the same. Why they changed the part number I am not sure. You will need the turbo/RSA brackets to make it work with the hinges but you should already have those.

I was actually considering selling the lid since I don't seem to have the time to have the tail painted.
