Speedometer working, Odometer not but rebuilt

My 89 964 has a working speedometer but the odometer and trip odometer are inop. I had the odometer rebuilt and never got any feedback from the shop that sent it out as to whether or not it was actually broken.

Since the odometer doesn't turn, I opened it and everything appears to be in good condition so I'm wondering if it is a sensor at the wheel or an electrical problem. Does anyone have any thoughts or a way to check? There are no blown fuses but I'm wondering if it could be a corrosion problem. Thank you...

Very common problem. The plastic odometer gears get old and brittle then break.

I sent mine to North Hollywood Speedo for repairs.

Thank you.. I checked the gears and they are fine. It was recently rebuilt. I'm wondering if it could be related to a wheel sensor, or relay? It's puzzling since the speedometer works... The wing extends properly. The only other problems I've had are the brake wear indicator is always on despite having plenty of wear left and the cruise control doesn't engage. I don't think they are related, but I don't know for sure.

I have the exact same problem, speedo works and the wing extends as it should. Lights in the speedo work fine but neither trip counter or odometer works. I think the fault lays in the speedo itself but I'm unsure how to continue investigating.

The speedo is pretty simple and if you get MPH indications the sensors and wiring to the unit are fine. I suspect a gear that looks good is just turning on the shaft. I would send it back to whomever did the work.

If you have a bad brake sensor it means one of the connectors is not making contact. Try disconnecting and reconnecting them. Or you can short all of the plugs with pieces of wire and then reconnect them to the harness one at a time. It will be the last one you try...

I had the same issue and it was the stepping motor inside the speedo assembly. I just went picked up a used speedo and popped it in.
