Introduction and Thanks!

Late this summer I purchased my 1990 C4 after a long search, many test drives and three PPI's. I am the third owner of a well cared for and pretty original slate grey metallic C4 with 80k miles. With the knowledge I have gained from lurking here on the forums, I feel like I found a winner and could not be happier. Weekend car, might eventually try the track, but for now getting as much seat time as I can and waiting for the permanent smile on my face to wear off. For those that are still looking, heed the advice on the forums and drive as many different models as you can and always invest in a PPI. I paid for two on cars that I didn't end up buying and consider them part of the bigger investment in my keeper.

Over the last couple of months I've completed the following "projects":

Fixed my smile
Converted AC to R134 and replaced drier
Replaced trunk carpet (Thanks Jeff Burger for the great deal!)
Installed Rennline strut tower brace
Replaced all fluids, some worn trim pieces and brake pads all the way around
Replaced non-working Porsche CD-2 unit and all speakers
Cleaned headlights and switched bulbs to Silverstars
Fixed falling engine foam and applied film to faded tail lights
Drilled the airbox (then spent two months trying to find an original one)

I spent the first month getting used to all the sounds, smells and stares. After the first 1000 miles I realized the car wasn’t going to blow up on me and I might be wrong, but it seems like the car drives better when being pushed hard than when you try and baby it. Thanks to all of you for the guidance and information that is shared on these forums and a special thanks to Mr. Dempsey for all he and his staff do to support the community and new owners like me. Hope to meet other Pelicans in Florida and I look forward to the day when I can start passing along info to a new owner down the road.

Happy Holidays and best wishes for the New Year!

Film?

I used ultra-fine polish to bring the tail light and head light lenses back to like-new condition on my daily driver. Don't expect results in ten minutes though.

The tail light lenses were pretty faded when I purchased the car and after pricing replacements, I found this solution on RL:

Tail Light solution - Rennlist Discussion Forums

The film is removeable and only takes about an hour to apply. I assumed that the fading was all the way through the lens material. What polish did you use and did you have to remove the lenses to get good results?

I had the exact color combo on my 89 C4 and it was gorgeous. Sounds like you found a nice one. Get some Cup wheels and lowering springs/Bilsteins and you will be all set.

Believe it or not, I used Meguiar's Swirl Remover which is used on paint.

My tail light lenses on my 993 were near perfect and I applied the polish by hand, but on my Honda CR-V, I used an orbital buffer on the tail and head lights.

On the 993, you need to remove the side turn signal lights first by removing a single screw on each light at the side.

After the side lights have been removed, you then remove the center lens panel. The screws are at the top of the panel once you remove the trim held down by 4 plastic flush nuts....those with a slot.

I just remembered you have a 964, not a 993, so someone else will have to chime in with lens removal instructions.
