Not sure if this had been discussed before, but all 993 Porsche ECUs (even the 1996 non-flashable ones) can be upgraded to do a multitude of enhancements like:
-Immobilizer bypass
-Performance Software Upgrades
-SAI fixes
-Lightweight flywheel tuning
-ROW conversions

This is done by installing a daughter board adapter to the memories.

Don't feel like you are hostage to having good remotes. There are options.

heliolps2,

I don't know what the etiquette is when it comes to posting prices, but here is the description of the Immobilizer Bypass on Non Turbo 993 Immobilizer Removal for Porsche 993 ECU DME - Specialized ECU Repair

The difference in prices has to do with the ECU Bosch Number.

Some on the Rennlist forum have indicated that setup is somewhat unreliable
the result of vibrations causing breaks at the solder connections of the chip sockets.

Dave,

I noticed that I posted a prototype picture. Below is the lastest design of the board that makes possible to flash and program the "non-flashable" 1996 911 ECUs. (The glue on top of the memory is for tamperproofing.)

You are correct, vibration was a known problem with these setups.

But the guys on Rennlist are reffering to an older design that another company made in the late 1990's. (They actually stopped doing this kind of work because of those flaws.)

I know this personally because we get those ECUs delivered here for repair service.

However, we designed, developed and manufactured our own daughterboard adapters (it was literally all done in-house).

We made our boards resistant to vibration by anchoring them differently so that they almost become part of the original circuit board.

A lot of the 993s that raced in Sebring, that use the OEM DME with the Immobilizer Bypassed have our Adapter Upgrade.

If they can race through that bumpy circuit, I'm sure that our adapter design will work through anything.

"almost"?

Using a daughter-board in an environment which experiences vibrations no matter
how well the connections are made to the main circuit board is highly unreliable!

Dave,

I understand your skepticism.

I would love for you to try it to see, and test, its reliability for yourself.

Immobilizer bypass

I can’t say enough about how great Steve Wong is. He is extremely responsive, very knowledgeable, very professional, and very very patient answering all my questions.

I received his memory chip and detailed installation instructions for my 1995 Porsche 911 and couldn’t be happier. Now my immobilizer is bypassed and I can simply turn the key and the car starts !!!!!!

I highly recommend Steve Wong and 911Chips.

This simple plug-in device does the same thing without any mods to the ECU:

Pelican Parts carries them, too.
