Porsche Crest Grinding Noise in C4 Help ?????

1990 C4 with 54 K on the clock. A week ago a grinding noise started when backing up and turning the wheel to the left. Does not appear when backing straight or underway at road speed.

Had it in to a local indy and they didn't see anything remarkable. Suggestions, comments please before I hand the C4 over and the wrenches start turning along with my wallet. Had this car since 06 and nary a problem.

Lastly, any suggestions for a top quality service shop in Tampa area. European******** ???? Autobahn, Tampa???? I'm familiar with Vortex. Thanks

Can you tell where the noise is coming from? Can you get the same noise going forward with the steering wheel in the same or reverse position?

does it do it if you lightly apply the brakes ? How about if you lightly pull up on the E-brake? sometimes things get loose in there .

What about backing with wheel turned to the right or low-speed forward movement while turning? I would check the power steering fluid and consider a front differential flush and fill.

What did the Indy say about the noise? Where is the grinding noise coming from?

Sounds like the same problem I had. Then it was the steering rack. Check for leaks. Also check ball joints and tie rod ends.

Have to agree with the others, check steering rack for leaks and power steering fluid level. My C4 developed a groan/grind and only noticed at low speed turning (like in and out of the garage). Steering rack was fine, but found a leak on one of the hoses connecting to the steering fluid reservoir.

FYI, I have a 1990 C4 and highly recommend Leo Leal at German Specialties in Oldsmar 813-818-0993.
