Help! 993 rear axle side sections bushes

Hi all,

Does anyone knows if the bushes on the side sections at the 993 rear axle (parts # 993 331 051 00 and 993 331 052 00), can be replaced without having to buy the hole section?

Since I've done a major repair on my Carrera 4 (changed shocks, rear arms - all of them - not original but from TWR anyway), I got a twisty behavior of the rear - longitudinally).

I have changed shocks again, fitted back the original elastic arms of the rear suspension, tried 1.567.046 alignment set-ups and... always the same. At the minimal bump on the road its rear looks like a Brazilian ass shacking!!

My mechanic tried yesterday to pull the rear suspension to the front and back and the wheel moves to the front about half inch... the only thing that moves are the side sections (specially left side).

So, I presume the problem comes from those bushes... (????)
The side sections cost a small fortune and it was good if I can have replaced only the bushes...

yes if can obtain the bushes, AFAIK oem bushes are not available separately

many of us that track our 993s car have replaced the stock bushes w/ solid bushes, Rennline has a nice kit that comes in 2 versions flat and tilt, I'd advise the flat kit and to buy the bolts.

the solid bushes will be fine for a street car too

Hi Bill,
Thank you very much for your suggestion.
Do you think normal comfort of an original 993, won't be afected if I fit those?

To a small extent maybe, but i'll take a little discomfort over the stock hip shaking any day

Those rubber bushings are replaceable with either the OEM or Sport hardness rubber.

They are from the same company that made your OEM busings in your Porsche.

The bushings are certainly not available oe, you have to buy the whole side mount if you go through Porsche.

If you think that they are available aftermarket, where?

yes the transverse arm bushes are available aftermarket but I've only seen solid bushes for the sides.

I e-mailed them to see if they will sell to the NA market directly. On certain items they will not due to distribution agreements. I know they will sell to me directly because I'd be picking them up right at the factory.

I'll let you know.

What a coincidence.

Talk about expensive compared to what I am quoted if I pick them up. Maybe I should become the Canadian distributor.

The issue I see is that you will probably also need the aluminum cages that the bushes sit in, they don't come out easily and are usually damaged during the process

For the price announced, I thought they were "plug and play"... Imagine taking out the rubbers and fit the new ones on the aluminum caps ???!!!!!!

Can you guys do me a big favor and post a drawing to educate me where these rubbers sit? Looks like something I want to replace down the road!

Like the control arm bushings, you have two choices; buy the complete control arm or replace the bushings and add in your time.

Our bushings do include the outer casement and inner core. They are just painted and so do not pop out in the image. You can see them if you look close.

Thanks for posting the schematics. Looks like an upgrade I should have done while the transmission was out. I am glad I missed it. It got a little $$$ after it is all said and done the way it is!
