Signs of oil overflow…or something else?

Hello From Sunny Florida:

I have a 1990 964 C-2 that developed a fairly rapid and extensive oil leaking problem on entire center-most portion of my engine (70k miles). The worst area of the oil leak is coming from the lowest point where the cylinders attach to the crankcase (bottom of the jugs). All of the cylinders seem to be leaking oil as seen from below the car (see attached photo's). The leaking occurs in drips that run from one end of the engine to the other…on both sides. There’s also oil leaking from gaskets at various points throughout the engine bay.

Upon further checking, I found oil puddled in the lower tube of the Jetronic intake manifold (Part # 964-110-023-00…Map Pos 1).

I also located oil puddled on top of the engine in proximity of the oil pressure sending unit.

It seems too incredible that oil could mysteriously begin sprouting from this many places at one time unless maybe the engine was overfilled with oil at the last oil change. Could this explain the ills my poor Porsche is suffering from?

Before I begin tearing into the engine, I want to make sure that just maybe there isn't a simple explanation why there would be a global profusion of oil from the engine like the over fill of oil during the last engine maintenance?

First thing I would do is check the oil level when the engine has fully warmed up. Drive it for about 20-30 minutes, then park it on the driveway while the engine is idling until the temp gauge is at 9 o'clock mark. You want the oil level between 1/4 to 1/2 on the gauge. Confirm oil level on the dip stick. If it is overfilled, drain the excess oil.

Once you are sure the oil level is correct, I would advise that you clean up all the traces of oil leaks from the underside. Remove the engine cover and clean as best as you can. Leave the engine cover off.

Just drive and check for oil leaks everytime you park. For sure you will find the source of the oil leak.
