Manual or Tiptronic?
I am a 930 owner looking to acquire a 993. Coming from the very basic/connected feel of a 930 all 993's feel a little refined. I have been looking for a manual car but keep finding better options/pricing for Tiptronics and I guess I haven't spent enough time driving one to trust myself on how satisfying it is; so looking for any advice on which way to go...
Cheers, Rob |

Get a six speed unless you have a need for an auto. They cost more upfront but will always sell for more later so you get it back down the road.

Tips are actually kind of fun to drive - especially in traffic. Resale will hurt it but they are cheaper going in.

Love the manual. Course, most my daily drivers were manual as well.

Having the 930 gives you everything you need in a manual. The TIP is no slouch and is a great DD, I also use my TIP on the track and don't give up much against 964's and 993's.

Much wider audience/desireability/resale value for a 6 spd manual.
If you're considering a 993 tip, might as well get a Boxster and join the girl scouts; IMHO

Great feedback, thank you. The comment about being a little spendy to get into a manual is certainly true - particularly with the S models. As much as I am sure they will continue to appreciate faster than the non S models it is hard to reconcile the essence of what porsche is about (the driving experience) against paying $15-20k more for the exact same thing.....

i purchased a 95' tip this january. the car is an excellent example which had 69k miles, turbo wing, rockers, new 18"work wheels with new tires and other small upgrades. the interior is absolutely perfect with a nice upgraded stereo and speakers etc... all for 25k. i had been looking for a long time for a good manual example but couldn't find anything i was happy with. prior to this every car i had other than the wifes (family car) was a manual. my previous car was a 450 rwhp camaro with a m6, this tip i more fun to drive daily. to be honest there is something liberating about the tip vs the manual for a daily driver. if i drove it less the manual would probably be my pick but having said that i do have another vehicle to drive daily but choose to drive the 993 because its fun.
