front control arm bushings

Hello- The most recent issue of Excellence has an article about the RS America model from 93-94. The article discusses several things to watch out for on these cars. It mentions worn control arm bushings causing a vibration above 40. Sounds familiar, although my car is a 90. So I looked in the parts Katalog-but couldn't find a part designated "control arm". So-what part is it? Do MY90 cars have them? Thanks in advance.

964 has front A-arms which connect the bottom of the shock/strut to the chassis, oem there are 2 different hardness bushes used, one soft and one softer. RS used one hard and one soft.

I replaced the bushes on my 993 which has a very similar front suspension w/ bushes from Elephant Racing, the offer 2 different hardness of rubber bushes so you can emulate the RS w/ a hard and soft one or use 2 soft ones or 2 hard aka sport ones. I used to Sport hardness ones on each side.

Thank you Bill! It looks like you just unbolt the control arm. Do the bushings need to be pressed out, or will they come out easily? Is there a written proceedure anywhere? Thanks

You have to press them out, or be prepared to spend some hours with a hammer a chisel. Do a search on Rennlist for Walrod bushings - they are made for 993 but might fit 964 also.

I have Chris's bushings on my 964 and they are working out nicely.

Bill,

how freely do the conrtol arm move once torqued up, I have just fitted powerflex and torqued the bolts to 110 nm & 85 however there is a bit of resistance in the arm I assume this will loosen up with a bit of road use hopefully

W/o any connection to the strut the A arm should move freely when p/u bushes are installed.

One of the issues w/ p/u is wear from lack of lubrication and misalignment, once worn they are sloppy and make noise

Thanks for the info. Bill.
Which of the bushings(front or back) is softer with the RS set-up?

On an RS the leading ones are soft and the trailing ones are harder
