What's this worth?

I've been looking for a 964 and came across this one. This car has 52K miles with miscellaneous options. I think the market is soft for used 964's but don't know what’s this worth. Of course, I will do a PPI but don't want to spend the money if they expect to get over $30K for the car. How do you determine the worth?

Thanks in advance!

Dave,

WWW.NADA.COM has this listed as;

Low retail - $32,615
Avg. Retail - $35,640
High Retail - $36,715

It looks like a sweet ride. I would definitely do the PPI. I think the dealer will also come down a little on the price. Just go in with your checkbook hanging out of your pocket so they know you mean business. You should be able to scarf it up for $33k I imagine.

Hope this helps.

Rick

Rick,

Thanks for the info but I don't think the NADA or Kelly Blue Book shows the true value of the vehicle. Based on the number of 911's in the market, the selling price has dropped.

If anyone has purchased any 964 recently, can you tell me what you paid for the car?

Regards,
Dave

Dave,

I just bought a 1990 Carrera C-2 out of CA and paid $27K for it (Between Med. & High Retail). The prior owner spent a lot on work to correct all potential problems as well as a lot performance mods. I think the talk about Porsches going soft recently is somewhat misleading (depending on geography). The economy has certainly taken a toll in some areas but it still is ultimately is up to the buyer if he/she is happy with the price paid. Personally, I'd have paid a little more for mine with all of the service records there and knowing that all the maintenance/corrections have been done.

It looks like you have some nice upgrades on this beaut... The carrera tail, K&N air filter, looks like big reds, etc. I'd check to see if some of the other necessary mods were made. If everything is in good shape and you can get the history... I'd snap it up!

I've worked in the auto industry for the past 14 years in various capacities. For the past 6+ years I have been with a company that finances automobiles. It's my job to know what their worth. (Though I must admit, a Porsche is more expensive than most of my applicants can afford.) You might try watching what the average sales price is in your area. Their are some geographically soft markets in the US. Check around in other markets (which you are doing now). I'm sure you'll get a lot of feedback here.

Good Luck on your purchase. Please post your decision.

All the best,

Rick

93s and 94s don't have the typical 964 problems with the cylinder head leak, flywheel, etc. Therefore, they sell at a good premium to earlier 964s. I bought my car (also a '93 C2 black on black, but w/out the mods of the car you are considering) pre-9/11, pre-stock market collapse, etc., so I can't comment on current values. Nor can I comment on the resale value of the mods.

Don't be pennywise and pound foolish. *If* that's the car for you (has the mods you want, PPI is good, all records included, etc.), make the best deal you can but don't blow the deal due to a $1-2k difference. It doesn't make sense to do so in the long run.

I RECENTLY PURCHASE MY 93 964 C2 CPE WUTH 65K MILES. SPOKE TO THE IND SHOP THAT WORKED ON THE CAR, BUT DID NOT DO A PPI. THE MECH HAD JUST COMPLETED 7K WORTH OF WORK ON THE CAR TO FIX ALL THE NIGGLY THINGS ALONG WITH AN ANNUAL SERVICE. EVERYTHING WAS IN TIP TOP SHAPE. I BOUGHT THE CAR FOR $28K AND ENJOY DRIVING IT MORE THAN MY 01 CHEV CORVETTE SIX SPEED.

NOT AS FAST BUT QUICKER.

I think Brian's (Buxton) prices are a little higher because he weeds out the trash. Buxton is one of less than a hand full of people I would buy a car from sight unseen. AAMOF, I will be using Brian's services to locate my C4 once my finances stabilizes or my GTI hickups once more. I've already spoken to him a little about my search.

Ask anyone on the 911 rennlist about Brian Buxton, and I'm sure you'll get the same story.

Too bad that wasn't as C4, otherwise I'm be jumping all over it. FWIW, I don't like the Carrera wing on the 964.

Dave, I just purchased my 1993 C2 from an individual in Dallas - found the car on AutoTrader - essentially a stock car with 44k miles, red with tan interior. Had a PPI done by Mayo performance before flying out to purchase the car. I had a round trip ticket just in case. Concluded the deal at $29,500 - The drive back to No. Va was fantastic.

Although the car had been serviced, I wanted to start fresh so I paid for a major service, with valve adjustment, all fluids changed, etc. Leakdown was across the six ranged between 4 and 8 percent. I am really pleased with it.

Ok, I should at least say it was from a wealth family member. I cant tell you what hoops I had to jump through for this price. Before I bought it, It was the extra car, the battery was always dead, the pealing chrome on the wheels always caused flat tires, no one wanted to drive it, It wasn't this nice looking when I got it, I have spent 5K plus at cost on it since (7K retail ?), Its in the shop today and will have a 1K shop bill, , blah blah blah.
If I was to sell her, I would ask mid 20K at least.

I know I still got a great deal....

Don,

Is that chrome headlight trim ring? Where did you get them? Would the chrome trim ring on the H4 fit the H5?

Nice looking car btw.

Well I did it! Yesterday I picked up this 93 C2 Coupe from Buxton Motorsports. I ended up paying $27K for this car. I was a little hesitant to purchase over the phone but Brian Buxton was very easy to deal with.

I originally thought that I paid a premium but I had another gentlemen email me today and offer me $29K. I politely refused.

The PPI came back with minor issues. Overall, the engine is dry with 180 average compression.

The car is very clean and was well maintained by the previous owner. Now I have to wait until spring to drive it!

Thanks for all of your response!
