964 C4 Instrument Cluster
Does the C4 cluster have a CEL?

Let me expand on this - failed smog check in CA due to CEL not lighting up when key is switched to first position. The manual does not show a CEL but, the cluster does have one - is it possible that this is a C2 cluster?

Took it to TLG Auto in North Hollywood and found that my 90 has a factory plug in the CEL spot meaning that it wasn't intended to have one. However, swapped a bulb for the plug and the CEL works properly.

The first 964 didn't have the CEL installed. It was introduced in the 90' model lineup. The 89' did not have the light but as you did you can easily retrofit it by adding the bulb.
