Starter problem after replacement
I recently replaced my starter with a rebuilt Bosch unit from Pelican. After replacement all seemed to work well. It started and I went for a drive. When I stopped to fuel, the car would not start. It acted like a weak battery. The starter would engage but not turn the engine.
I had the car jumped and it ran momentarily then died again. I had the car towed to my home. I charged the battery, checked the battery connections. I tried the starter and it worked well. The car started normally. I shut the engine off and restarted three more times and all worked well. I then went for another drive....this time after 10 miles I noticed the ABS warning light on, then the battery light on. The engine shut down moments later while driving (EFI maybe). Again I had to tow it home. The original starter was changed because the seliniod fail to engage the starter. No other electrical problems were noted be for this parts change. Any Ideas? |

May be coincidental, it certainly sounds like the alternator isn't charging. Battery voltage at idle should be around 13.6v if I remember right. Are you sure that you connected the wiring correctly on the new starter?

Thanks for the suggestion to check wire connections. The dummy mechanic (me) didn't connect the primary wire from the starter to the alt. I did connected the primary wire from the battery but..
In my feeble defense, I was working off the garage floor on a creeper. When you put your arm in there to hook stuff up you can no longer see the target. |
