Major ignition switch problem

2002 Carrara 2. My key transmitter became intermittent, took many tries to open the door or hood. Changing the battery didn’t help. Second key behaved the same. I just used the key manually for several months. The key began not turning in the ignition. I replaced the electrical switch part, and the problem seemed to get worse, when turned after replacement the starter would not engage, battery OK. Subsequently the key will not turn at all. I tried to remove the entire key/lock mechanism, but could not depress the pin on the steering column side to remove it without the key in the on position, and the key would not turn.
I used a saws all to cut the shaft between the key lock mechanism and the steering wheel lock. I still can’t turn the key or the steering wheel, and still can’t depress the pin at the steering column. I am unable to manually pull the steering lock pawl because I can’t reach it through the small hole.
I can get by without a steering wheel lock. I need the ignition key to work. What are my options?
