Seat Memory doesn't work

I just bought a 2003 C4 and can't get the memory for the seats to stick. I followed all the instructions in the manual--but no luck. When I push any of the buttons, nothing happens (no old settings are engaged). I checked the fuse and swapped it out without any changes.
