"whirrring" noise from the front end

I just purchased my 996, 98 model from the UK. Drove it back to Germany and started to notice a "whirring" sound from the front end at speed it increased in volume. Well it's now become even more noticeable after this Sunday drive. I am thinking wheel bearings, but wanted to know is there anything else I should look at also. I had the wheels balanced before crossing the channel and at high (autobahn) speed 120 mph+ there appeared to be a shudder coming through the steering wheel.

Any thoughts or previous experiences greatly appreciated,

Thnaks,

Bezza
