Do factory crate engines have IMS issue
I'm looking at a 2001 996 C4 that had a Porsche factory crate engine replacement at 60k km. I'm wondering if porsche addressed the IMS issue in their later crate engines.
Thanks! |

They all still have the IMS bearing. Year of replacement engine manufacture would give an indication of which bearing it has.

check the engine serial number. Depends what year the engine was replaced. I believe after '04 the engines used had the non-serviceable larger bearing. If it was replaced before 04 then it has the same as the original...the crappy single row bearing. Check the engine serial number and look for AT in the sequence. That should be the larger non-serviceable bearing.
