A better way to fill your Tiptronic box
A few months ago I drained my 997S tiptronic gearbox, 6 quarts came out and was able to put back just 3 quarts using the very stupid procedure of running the car for 30 minutes, shifting through gears, opening a small stupid little fill plug, and pump in a teaspoon each time.... and then managed to round off the allen fill plug. I know there must be a different way.
Then I got to thinking! These are German engineers. The factory assembly worker would never put up with that inaccurate, time consuming stupid fill procedure. There must be a better factory way or they would fire the design engineer. After yanking out engines on a 997TT and a 996 with Tipt, I noticed a 2 inch round cap at the front tip of the gear box and knew right away that this is how the factory filled the tipt gear box. So, this weekend while I was changing out the 997 water pump, I took the opportunity to drain the coolant, removed a couple of S hoses, and lower the transmission nose by about 2 inches. I reached up to find the black cap, snapped it off with a screw driver, and ... found the fill port. I used a right angle fitting, attach a hose to one end, stuff the other end into the fill port, and stuff up some rags between the body and the fill por to keep the fitting in the gearbox Use a hand pump, suck up the fluid, attach the end of the pump to the hose, and pump the fluid in. After 5 minute, I was able to put in another 3 quarts of oil. Hah, take that you stupid Tiptronic engineer who expected us to sit under the hot running engine and fill up one teaspoon at a time. Eff You. The picture shows the front of the gear box, and the circle is the fill port with the cap snapped off. ![]()

I'm hoping the plastic fill cap snaps back on and seals properly. Or did you have to get a new one? Also, the pictures will help....the suspense is getting real.

The plastic cap snaps right back on. It is at the very top of the transmission so it will not leak. Almost all these gear boxes have some kind of vent to equalize the pressure.
The picture is too big and I cannot compress it right now. I will get it done at home, later.

I give up loading more pictures. I have to resize it to the point of being useless...

Good enough. THANKS! I just got my first Porsche 911 today - with a tiptronic - so that's why I was curious. Filed for future reference!

The picture I posted previously is my car having the trans fluid changed at our shop. We simply used a hand pump. Not sure why the fluid backed up on you. If memory serves it takes 9L of LV fluid. Be sure to use the correct fluid, the standard and LV bottles look identical. The Low Viscosity fluid is an amber color and has the typical fishy smell. Fill the fluid until it runs out, start the car and allow the fluid to circulate, then top off.
