Google is your friend - it is the secondary air pump malfunctioning. First I would check the fuse. Then it is on to more diagnostics.

Make sure all connections are tight, and pump is clean and dry for starters..

The number one problem for this fault is a bad shut off valve for cars up to and including MY1999. Part number 993 113 245 01. MY2000 introduced a new style valve that does not typically have this problem for the 996.
The 997 uses yet another in which is a Cayenne part number 948 113 203 51. You may also want to check the electrically operated change over valve part number 996 605 123 01 for all years and the vacuum hoses. Best Regards, Scott Slauson |
