It's alive! 1st test at WSIR 10-29-04

Well- I'm finally done rebuilding the car after the wreck.

I plan to head up to Willow Springs for a shakedown test day Friday (10-29-04). Anyone else want to skip work for a play day? It would be nice to run with some other early cars for a little fun.

And if you can't make that, we'll all be out at the next vintage race event with VARA there at WSIR Nov 13-14.

Here are some pics after the seemingly never-ending project:

JP,

THe car looks Great. The Alfa Club is at willow this weekend. I think some of the Pelican guys are running it. You might see them on Friday.
I am sure you will see Anthony. Good luck on the test. Remember it is only a test. Takeit easy to shake the car out. After 1st session, recheck all nuts and bolts. And bring touch up paint to fix those dings from the serious bugs and flying rocks.

Hey Mark,

That's right, finally got it into the 1:36's...me in my car. I am getting a set of double adjustable Koni's next year. So, next year with those shocks and a new set of tires, I'm shooting for 1:33's

Alfa Club was at Willow last weekend.

JP,

Looking at the car. YOu really lowered the back end. Did you flare the rear fenders???? You really have those 225's tucked way up in there. What Torsion bars in the rear are you running and what struts? I only ask because you may not have enough suspension in there. You may be bottoming out.

You also lowered the front a bit to.
Do you know your ride height measurements and Corner balance weights?

Crap Anthony,

That is great. Now I need to put the fiberglass on that has been sitting in my garage for 7 months. That will drop about 100lbs form my car and 1:33's will be in site. 1:35.6 is my best so far.

Those pics are before replacing the bent trailing arms. I took those pics as I was loading it in the trailer to take to the suspension shop to replace them. They're so bent that the tires are tucked way in there. In fact, I had to put in some spacers to keep the inside tops of the tires from binding on the body just to roll it around.

And since the right side is bent more than the left, it leans the car right and makes the front look lower too. It's not though.

And since you asked, the torsions are the same as before:
30mm solid rears, 23mm solid fronts. Car should weigh somewhere around 1950lbs wet. maybe a little less. We'll see tonight. Bilstein shocks front and rear.

cstreit- I can't take credit for my cousins car Don't feel bad. We all know there are too many of us Plavan's racing to keep track of.

JP,The car looks great as I told you before. I will make you a "Herbie type S" vinyl decal for the deck lid. I love the "This side up" sticker on the back.

Jim, you're giving away the test day? If no Plavans take it, consider your humble and hard-working moderator...

Wow- I would love that Jim. Thanks.

How can I get it from you?

PM me, call my cell (858)922-6916 or email jp@plavan.com and I'll set it up.

The rebuild budget hit could use a free test day!
