Quick lap timer question..

Do HotLap (or any other brand) timers work through tinted windows? How dark can the tint be?

I have lexan quarters, and was thinking of switching from clear to tinted. It wouldn't be ghetto-bling limo tint, maybe a 70% at best.

I have an Ultralap that worked just fine through some pretty darkly tinted windows. And you could always cut out a small hole in the tint if you had to.

Or mount your lap timer off of the cage so it's pointing out the upper rear corner of the open driver's window, not the rear quarter window.

On a related note, I recently had to remove some panes of glass from a big window in my house. I learned that the 80-year-old glass had been tinted with a residential tinting product at some point in the past (a very mild tint -- but it apparently filters UV, protecting furniture).

Re-tinting the glass is fairly inexpensive. It made me think that everyone should get this type of tint for new Lexan installs. It hadn't scratched at all, and was subject to regular ammonia-based window cleaners.

I know this is not on Thom's topic, exactly, but he might be interested in protecting his Lexan this way. Does anyone know of it being done?

I've tried to tiny polycarbonate with normal window tint, and it's a bitch - the tint doesn't slide as easily as it does on glass.

I think I'll roll it and see how it shakes out. As a bonus, it will give me an easy excuse for my slow lap times...

My Ultra-lap works just fine thru the tinted rear qtr window.
