Also, you guys both needed to be more proactive with your point-by's. Jim, I was behind you for a couple of laps trying to give you the "hint hint" early in the day and it was like you never looked in your rear-view mirror (at least early on anyway). Remember, if a car comes up behind you, be courteous and let them by. Heck, I have to do it myself all day (it seemed as if I spent most of the blue sessions with my arm pointed out the window pointing everyone by ).

Heh, I had that problem the first session. I had one thing on my mind coming out of turn 9 - go fast!!! I wanted to see how fast I could go. PatrickB told me how he wanted to pass coming off of 9, but then I would pull away down the straight. Oh well, I tried to be more conscious of letting people pass the next two sessions. In fact, like Scott, it felt as if I had my arm out the entire time

Dave

Well, honestly for the first 2 sessions I spent half my time with my arm out the window. Can you say "timid"? If I remember correctly, one of them was for Jim.

I wasn't complaining about the point by, I feel like its a little unneccisary if you are blasting away down the straight like that. If I don't see it, and you can pass, go for it.

I have to apologize for any "non-points" for two reasons. My rear-view was 3M taped on and it vibrated so much It was usually not adjusted to where I could see. When it WAS adjusted, I'm sure I was more concerned with dead gripping the wheel.

I will be more pro-active next time when I have the Noob burned out a little more.

Jim, I didn't want you to take my post the wrong way and now that you mention how your mirror was taped on, it all makes sense now.

My first few times at the track my left arm was sore from pointing straight out for 2-1/2 hours. I got smart by my 3rd event and found a manicans arm in a local pawn shop and mounted it out the window. Worked great except the red nail polish clashed with the white of the car to much.

Here's another video. It includes turn number, speed and gear changes, and then also shows the same lap with no text. It's the fastest lap I ran that morning, but includes me getting shown the passing flag and then being overtaken by two of the faster Radicals.

Humbling to be at full throttle near the top of the tach in fourth and still be passed pretty effortlessly.

Patrick, I am trying to swing the 18th with ACRA. I am at Streets on the 17th so I am probably going to skip work on the 18th also and just stay at the Devonshire. Would be great to have track days back to back and going from Streets to the Big Track would be fun.

Scott, there is something going around and you just might get it during the middle of April. Ill pull a couple of laps for you @ Laguna for your Birthday.

Jack, Looking at that last video you posted it seems you have a little more room in turn 1. Am I crazy or is there a .5 second or so there?

Dan, thanks. I wish I could but to be honest, I've got to get some new tires on the 996 before she goes back out there again. Those AVS ES 100's were HORRIBLE on the track once they heated up. It was like they were coated with grease once they got hot, which was only after about 15 minutes of hard charging. Ask Patrick about that. I was slip-sliding all over the place practicing my best Dukes of Hazard driving impressions, finally culminating in a nice little 360 spin at the exit of five (stayed on track though).

Anyhoo...I'm trying to decide whether to just stick with the 17's I've got now (they're narrow - 7" front and 9" rear) and just put better tires on them or go down the much more expensive route and put some 18's on (probably 8.5's and 11's) with much bigger rubber (235's - at least - up front and 285's in back).

Turn 1 does look like I over-braked. I don't think there's a half second there, but it would be interesting to look at the data to see how much some of my other passes through that turn might have saved me.

Jack~ I REALLY like that last video posted with the text!!! Info is most helpful in gauging how slow I'm really going next to you...

Jack, Missed a decimal placement there. Was thinking .05 seconds. I dont think your leaving 1/2 second at any one point on the track, especially WSIR. That seems to be one of your cleanest laps you have posted. Not much wheel movement and no traffic to work around (compared to other posts).
Look forward to getting out there again on the 18th to see if I can pick up some time.
