Push button ignition 1971 911
Anybody ever wired up a push button ignition before? I want to have a switch for the starter (Push button) and want to have a separate switch for the fuel pump/ignition system. Totally get rid of the key (car is track only. No street). I do have an ignition cut-off switch already.

Sure. My track car has this. I have an ignition switch, a fuel pump switch, and a push button starter switch. These parts are all easy to come by in heavy duty versions.
The fuel pump switch (car is carbed) is protected by one of those flip up switch covers you see on warplanes and such. Only I reversed the switch so that when the cover is down the pump is on. No chance of shutting it off accidentally (you can guess what led me to do this), but when I want ignition but no pump (for testing this or that) I can do it. And if I want to check the position on the grid when all buckled in, HANS on, etc., I can just feel with my gloved hand that the cover is down. Don't have to remember if on is up or down or whatnot. Cut a piece of aluminum (round or square) to cover the ignition switch hole in the dash and then some, and rivet in place over the hole. Drill for your new ignition switch. Wiring is dead nuts easy. When I got my car as a roller, it still had the old ignition switch. I just left the key in it, but got to thinking what if: what if some prankster swiped the key at night at the track? Plus simplifies things, less to go wrong, and a bit less weight. |

Yea, That was my plan. I have the ignition assembly out but I do not know which wire goes to what. So I need to know which wires go to Starter, Ignition, Fuel pump or a good way to figure it out.

Pretty simple. Longacre makes some nice switch kits. Use a relay to power the important bits like lights, fuel, ignition.
This switch can be mounted in a plate covering your old ignition switch: ![]() This longacre model I've installed in the left guage hole (removed fuel level guage): ![]() You'll need a high capacity relay and have to undertand the wiring diagram for the ignition switch. There are quite a few so take your time and label all the wires carefully. Test them before you permanently wire everything.

Sure - easy to find. For instance, our host Pelican Parts has nice 911 wiring diagrams on its website. You can find them easily.
