does Bilstein revalve shocks correctly?
I was talking to some people and they mentioned that there was some speculation/opinion that Bilstein does not revalve your shocks adequately when sending them in for performance rebuild/revalving. I know from speaking with Bilstein that they typically set the rebound values much higher than stock as well as increasing the compression when doing a performance rebuild.
My question is for people that have had this done on a track oriented 911 or 930 with heavy torsion bars and sway bars....... Are you happy with the results after running the shocks on track, is there a noticeable improvement over stock? Is there an alternative source to Bilstein for rebuilding the shocks at a comparable price that can justify the benefits of their specific compression and rebound valving? Bilstein service is very reasonable in my opinion. I just want to know if there is a better setup being run out there.

I had Jack at Bilstein West do mine for autocross. Sent him the required data and gave him my usage. I was quite happy with it. The rebound was set quite soft.
On my normal (rough) venue it kept the tires on the ground which is where they need to be. Were they perfect for my use?....probablly not, but without my own personal shock engineer that was as close as I could get. I'm sure that if you gave them the C & R specs you want, they'd give it to you....within the limitations of the shock. I have heard that Jack is no longer with us....just a rumor I hope is false.

I had mine done by Jack just before he stopped working (It's always sad to loose someone like Jack, RIP). We discussed the specs and settled on a good compromise. Then I made changes to my suspension and had Ramone (Jack's understudy) revalve. Missed big time on front rebound, too stiff. But easy to have it done again.
However this winter I'm going to switch from my Bilstein inserts in Boge struts to Steve Weiner's custom valved RSR front struts and I guarantee Steve will get it perfect.

I had mine done at Bilstein back in May of this year. They were installed along with new torsion bars and bushings all around, replacing the original 1982 equipment, and the difference was huge. Smart Racing also revalves Bilstein shocks, but also charges about twice what Bilstein does. I've been very happy so far. YMMV.

Has anyone used Perormance Shocks Inc. PSI? They are at Sears Point. Looks like they do rebuilds and revelving.
