Need the experts: rebuilding '74 3.0 RSR Clone, Valkyrie racing
Hi Guys, long term member, first time vintage race car owner.
Just purchased a Valkyrie Racing 3.0 RSR clone Rolling chassis: needs to be painted, re-sorted, supplied with a new engine & gear box. I'm in no hurry: paint & re-organizing the interior will come first. I want the car to look like it came out of the 70's but with a slightly more modern & safer interior: -Recaro seat, removable steering wheel, updated/graded cage, 911-style gauges across the front of the driver, console, dash top, hidded/loomed wiring, etc. The body is a fully-Zeus'd 9" & 11" package, 3.0 nose & rear, no tail (will be proper 3.0 as well). Questions: I need to restore this car to be competitive in it's appropriate class: which class is that? Also, can the experts chime in on what section of the PCA rulebook where I can check for displacement/engine management restrictions, wheel/tire & brake combos, etc. Looks to have 9" Fuch's all around with 10 & 10.5" tires on them...Tires could go 1.5" wider in the back pretty easily. Wow, you've got a big project ahead of you. Based on the chassis and suspension mods it's going to be in the GT class. Which GT class just depends on your engine choice for PCA or measured horsepower for NASA GTS.

Yep, tube frame = GT class for sure. Why not go with a small bore turbo motor and go after PWR. Could be fun. I think that is the first time I have seen doors attached with Dzus fasteners.

The oil lines are too small...they look like -12. You should use nothing smaller than -16. If the oiler cooler(s) has smaller fittings, you need to address that too.

Pretty sure they're -16, look at the picture of the end of the line next to the inside of the right rear tire.
Question for you guys: a want the correct tail on it which appears to be the 53" IROC whale tail with the two grills, but most all photos I see show 11" & 14" fenders; mine is 9" & 11". I really don't want to re-Purchase/trim/re-fasten all the fenders, so is there a period-correct race version with 9" & 11" fenders on a short hood post-'74 car? The car came with fresh jugs of PPG paint in the Gulf colors, which is already not period for a '74 car really. Thoughts?? Mark

I'll bet you a dollar that those are 10's and 12's (looks like both have been extended about an inch)

Yeah Jeremy you have a point: look at the curve of the front bumper cover to the front fender: def. a change from yours.

well it was subjected to a gallon of paint stripper: so no it's not pretty. most of the gauges were harvested for some reason, but I would have replaced them all anyway . Hopefully it wont be too bad.

progress
Progress update:
Both door skins are now smooth, de-Dzus'd, and primed (no pics, sorry). Interior has been reduced to cage & most wiring removed in prep for cage criticism/corrections and paint. Found a great ceramic paint that's a perfect match for Gulf Blue, so gonna try that route first since I can get more accomplished this way and will be able to start on my new interior while I prepare for the full exterior paint. Last picture: how I plan to lay out my gauges & warning lights (for now). Will want to re-street legalize the car at some point so a speedo will go in. Mark ![]() ![]() ![]()
