Big problem with Transmission

Hi all, Tony here looking for some insight to a problem that has occurred with my 2006 Cayenne Turbo 60,000 miles. I had brought it in the the Porsche dealer last month for rotors and after it was picked up, I noticed a particularly elusive high pitched squeal when I applied the brakes. After bringing it back twice, the elusive noise was determined to be not the new rotors or brakes at all, but a failed bearing on the drive shaft. $2000 later, a week or two after the replacement of a new shaft, I'm driving along at twenty five miles an hour and the transmission gives out entirely. I mean no noise, no warning lights, nothing just no power to the wheels. I have it towed back to the Porsche dealer and after three days I am told my transmission failed and I need a entirely new tranny to the tune if $16,000. Wow, holy crap. My question is it at all possible that their 2 week earlier replacement of the drive shaft and my entire tranny failure is related? It seems like they must be; an out of balanced shaft, dislodged sensor......I don't know but am inquiring to the knowledge base of this forum. I own 3 other Porsche's, love them, but this is making me sick to my stomach. Dealer serviced since new, not abused, routine maintenance (coolant pipe replacement done). I don't even have the confidence that it's been diagnosed properly as it took them two weeks to trace the shaft noise that I heard every day. Please help with some insight into this problem if possible. Should I bring it somewhere else for a diagnosis, or have them look a little deeper? Can it be drive shaft related? Thanks all.

I would get a second opinion. Usually cars will tell you something is wrong before hand. Did you noticed any harsh shifting or slipping in the past? Any leaks? What is the transmission doing now? Will it not go into gear at all?

PS: I would find a new independent garage to work on your car, rarely is the Porsche dealer a good investment unless its warranty work.

Thanks for the reply. There was no prior noise, mis-shifting or fluids that I noticed. I live in a very 'slow' coastal town, it's very easy going level roads and the tranny failure just happened in mid drive. Thankfully as an owner of several other classic cars,I new I coulda been in trouble,with absolutely no power to the wheels. I used the momentum to coast into a parking lot, but if not it would have been dangerous as yes, the automatic shifter goes into position and there is no power to the wheels whatsoever. Engine starts,engine light is now in but it idles and sounds fine.
I am having it brought to an independent garage. It just seems coincidental, with the recent shaft replacement. I don't know , I asked the service manager but he did not seem to know how they mapped or traced the issue. Seems like they gave up really easily and would like me to foot the bill for a new tranny. I'm still waiting on eggshells, because I really don't want any other car, ibetween brakes and the coolant pipes I just dumped about $10,000 into this car. At this point I wouldn't have the work done there anyway I'll never be bringing the car back there. Thanks again.

First thing to do would be to check the transmission fluid level. Without fluid the car won't move. If fluid level is fine there could be a issue with the valve body. You might want to invest in a good set of tools and start wrenching yourself. I find it very rewarding! Good luck!
