dash gauge conversion question - early 911
1973 911.
Has anyone upgraded their gauges from analog to electric when doing an LS conversion? I'm wondering what size gauges you used and what you did to make them fit perfectly. All of the nice aftermarket gauges I am finding come in inches/fractions (4 1/2, 3 3/8, 4", etc), not exactly the 80mm, 100mm, 115mm standard with early model 911's. Thank you for your feedback, John |

John,
I looked at options to keep the factory appearance of the dash when I adopted my SBC powered 911 with no functioning gauges but unfortunately couldn't find any reasonably priced alternatives. I ended up fabricating a new gauge face to house the gauges I purchased and bolting into the original location. I looked and couldn't find a build thread for your project - Do you have one? Also, I'm relocating to San Diego this summer... Would love to potentially check it out in person one day to analyze your build! |

No build thread yet. I've been on this project for a couple years now, however I have a very busy life /work /family / coaching schedule. To that end, it wouldn't have been enough progress to be interesting. I am photo documenting the process and will retrospectively post the build when I get closer to a finished project. I'm working out of my lift-less home garage so I'm building a custom cart that will allow me to roll the car around, work under it safely and drop the motor/tranny out (and in) without lifting it.
PM me when you get closer to San Diego and we can hook up. Cheers |

I used livorsi gauges with my ls conversion. seems that all the openings were left unmodified. also you might want to look at speedhut gauges. I did use a four in one gauge in the larger opening. this was done on a 78 930 dash which I believe has the same openings as the early 911. good luck!

Thanks
That looks great. Any chance you have any more pics of the gauges? would love to see how you set them up. And yes, looking at speedhut currently. I'll look up Livorsi and see what they measure.
Much appreciated! |
