Porsche V8 into 911
Has anyone ever tried to use a Porsche V8 into a 911? he V8 in my cayenne is amazing and it would keep the Porsche pedigree. One out of a 928 would be an option as well. I know there is way more swap "stuff" for LS engines but just doing that "what if"
thing in my head. |

Porsche themselves created number of Audi V8 swapped 911s as factory prototypes. They literally took some 964 and stuffed the Audi V8 in the rear and had front mounted radiators similar to the Boxster. I tried to find the article cut I couldn’t. There was an article in one of the Porsche magazines about it. But TBH, the Audi V8 really isn’t all that great of a motor. It’s pretty big and heavy compared to the LS, and doesn’t have anywhere near the power potential of the LS. A cool swap would be the VW Golf R32 V6. This is an incredibly compact and light weight engine that makes tons of power right out of the box. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

If you have the motor on hand, and want to save some money go ahead. But I think you'd be best to follow the route others have taken with a SBC/LS1 if you're going to do a V8 swap.

I was dreaming of installing my 600hp 4.4 S65 BMW engine into a early 911. This particular engine has dry sump so it should sit pretty low. I’d want to make it mid engine too like factory RSR. I figured it’s German into German so not quite the horror of LS swap. It’s also one of the best sounding V8’s ever made. One can only dream!

Compared to the flat 6, with alternate engines I cringe when I think of all that cylinder head weight up high in the chassis.

Ruf put a custom V8 in a 911, mounted upside down.

Would be fun to attempt a Porsche/Audi/Vw V8 in a 911. Even doing a Built 1.8t are pretty nice. I like the thought of keeping it family. Hence why I am doing the Audi V8 in my 924.
