911 LS Conversion info
I'm new here and this is my first post. It's also my first foray in attempting to find more info on 911 LS conversions so please excuse my ignorance as I come up to speed.
A long time ago I took a ride in a 500HP V8 powered 914 and never forgot it. I'm just over 60 now and still it comes to mind but just have been so busy I never went forward with anything. I'm getting closer to retirement now want to find out more of what's going on in the area of LS conversions and then start down the road of acquiring one. I've been to the Renegade and CPE sites and elsewhere so I'm starting to get an idea. What I have in mind (which may be uninformed as it's likely there's much I don't know that I don't know) is a earlier 911 --before 1990-- finished in a wide body format around 500HP. In general, what forums are most focused on 911 conversions and is there any two or three websites where most of the info can be found about people who are currently doing the conversion? And finally, as I'm still busy with work for probably a few more years, it's possible I may hire someone to do the conversion or purchase an existing converted car. It's the money vs. time thing. Any suggestions for someone who has a track record for building these conversions? Is it either CPE or Renegade? Thanks! |

That, or find someone semi local that has done it or can do it… I have a 74 RSR clone with an LS1 and I put a 996 transaxle in it. My thread on here is the 68 ls swapped project. (It’s a 74rsr clone). You can source parts on your own, or purchase from big companies. I think there are enough people doing it now that can help out.

CPE to my understanding only does conversions for 996 and up 911s.

Hi obthomas, thanks for that. I've currently got 911's and 914's on my mind and right now and haven't strayed towards Boxster's yet. I like the purple, though.

Cpe charges around 60g for a completed car. Renegade charges 40g to convert your existing car. If you are handy you can buy a car the kits and Ls engine of your choice for around 30-45g depending on the donor.
