Type IV to Bus Swap

My brother has a terribly underpowered '67 Bus/Camper thing with a stock reduction gearbox and lots of windows. I told him he should upgrade to a type IV engine but I don't know the compatability issues with this tranny and engine bay. Any info would be greatly appreciated, before he takes it on another 1000mi trip through the mountains and we have to U-Haul it back again. Thanks

Thanks for the reply but this is way more than what we need. I am not familiar with busses so I need to know if a type IV will bolt up to his gear reduction '67 tranny and mount up in the chassis properly. If not, then we need adapters. The rest is cake.

the bus motor will almost bolt right up, you just need a bering pressed into your flywheel (so I understand, I'm using a porsche flywheel/tranny setup) then it will boult right up using the stock bus flywheel, clutch and pressureplate. and you will use the starter that comes with your tranny.

rarlyL8 here's a little trick some friends of mine use on early trannies. Take out the center ring of your bug pressure plate and press it into the T4 p/p. Becarefull when attempting to put the T4 motor back in because there are different size flywheels.

on the flywheel subject vw911 is right there are different flywheel sizes out there. If you are running the stock tranny I would recommend a 210 T-4 flywheel you may have to grind the tranny a little bit but not too much. Only a 215mm flywheel if your motor is making more than 150hp or more. as far as clucth disc go use the disc that matches the flywheel. A T-1 disc will work BUT!! the surfaces don't match up right. You cannot use a 914 flywheel in a VW tranny but if you run a porsche tranny you must run a 914 flywheel.
If you are running a VW tranny the BEST flywheel is made by Kennedy Adapters it cost $200 and an extra $40 for lightening. It use T-1 pessure plate a disc. The advantage of this is the veriatey of clutch set-ups you can run for stock 200mm to 2100lbs four puck clutch. Also you don't have to remove any material from the tranny
