what tranny do you have in this thing again?

Rebel911 08-15-2011 10:32 AM

915

dtakenname 08-17-2011 06:20 AM

Hi,
Does she runs cool?
What temperature in traffic are you running?
Many Thanks.

Rebel911 08-17-2011 04:42 PM

I have my fans come on at 190 and it stays right around 204 in traffic. when it was 100 out I was in crawling, stop/go traffic for an hour, it maxed out at 221.

however I have big plans for this Fall/Winter/Spring. O_o

Packy 08-17-2011 05:16 PM

how much does the car weigh?

lin7310948 09-13-2011 01:37 AM

i had those headers built by Stainless Headers. they send out a kit of various angles and the header flanges and you fit up a mock prototype set of headers. if you look back through my conversion thread ...first purchase for another ls conversion...there is more information and a couple of pics of the prototype headers. as with any headers...stainless and custom add up to expensive....at least to me! the hushpower pro series mufflers are good for me. if you go to the flowmaster site there are audio clips available of the various mufflers. i have the 3 inch in and out ones.. there is a difference in the SBC and LS1,2,3,7 headers.

The video starts out with pictures then moves to my paced laps with the Porsche Club. I got the guys video from the Porsche behind me. The audio starts out in his 911 then at 1:55 it switches over to my cars audio. My camera sucked since my GoPro is at the bottom of the Caribbean Sea. a bit into the video its splits screens to show my cars view.

This is the 1st time for me on the track. I definatly had way more power than most of the other Porsche's. The GT3rs was nice.

no

next May is Beginner then Advanced DE for me at the Glen.
I am lucky to live so close to a historical and world famous track that is very active with driver education.

All depends on the club too. I ran a few events with SCDA at lime rock. They would allow all run groups to pass on the front straight. At NHIS, you could pass on the oval.

Brorag 09-14-2011 09:45 AM

Kid, you've done good.
That's some of the best engineering and assy work I've seen. Any idea of top speed?

Rebel911 09-15-2011 04:37 AM

Thanks, it is self gratifying to drive the car, feel the power and hold the lines.
My best 0-60 time is 3.6 (starting in second) seconds I have yet to do the 1/4 mile times.
I've run it up to 140 with plenty of rpms left to redline but ran out of track.

I am very happy with it to date but I need a much stronger clutch and more fuel delivery. It is leaning out at the top end.
I am planning on new rims/tires this winter, wider body, rebuild the frontend, rebuild the suspension and new clutch.

Hello rebel 911
I have also just finished a ls1 conversion on my 911 and i drowe it first time yesterday here is link: porschevideo første tur - YouTube
but when i put the throttle down hard the oil sump hits the road(not good) so i would know how thick your torsion bars is rear so i can upgrade, but the car is fast and the throttle response is sharp.
Regards from Denmark

Yan2947 09-20-2011 11:41 AM

sirhiss, I just powder coated my "skid plate" and will put photos up from my 89 911 ls1 build. The skid plate is 1/4 " think and sits 1/4" below the oil pan. Once you break your oil pan you have to re-think things. Even driving slow through pot holes can scape the oil pan. I need to also add stiff torsion bars so anyone who added some new ones let us know which ones you got!

Rebel911 09-22-2011 04:58 PM

Three words. Batwing oil pan. sits inside the framing for the engine mounts.
or get the Camaro oil pan but note that all new oil pans for the LS1 and 6 come with the LS2 filter thread.
best bet for the dollar is the Camaro pans.
I am in the process of putting in coil overs to firm things up along with a 30mm sway bar.

Yan2947 09-23-2011 04:42 AM

I have the camaro oil pan but it looks like the Batwing Oil Pan saves about 1/2 inch? Is that correct Rebel911? I am looking at the 23mm in the front and 30mm in the rear for torsion bars. Is that a good combo?

If that's the case that is the first DE I have ever heard of that doesn't! Was it not a PCA event? Sign up for CVR's DE at the Glen in October, I believe Green (beginner w/instructor) can pass anywhere the track is straight.

Rebel911 09-27-2011 03:49 PM

made the news letter cover

So... ummm I guess the local PCA doesn't mind my car.
It made the news letter cover.

sirhiss 10-02-2011 10:46 AM

Hello

Dont you get a very hard ride with 30mm rear torsion bar? i am thinking about 28mm. for my car but maybe it is not enough? How many hp does your engine have and what are you driving with now ? I have coil springs in the front so there i can pretty easy adjust. I am not shure i can use a batwing oil pan because my exhaust is right by the Camaro oil sump, but i can redo the exhaust if i need to. Regards from Denmark

These were Parade Laps at the Vintage Races ... ;)

Rebel911 11-08-2011 12:17 PM

So I am going with 17x10 rears with 295/35R17 tires.

Front are 17x9 with 275/40R17's.

Packy 11-08-2011 12:21 PM

Hey Rebel, do you know if people run catalytic converters with these conversions? And what year is your chassis?

Rebel911 11-09-2011 01:20 AM

My chassis is a 1979 row.

I am not using cats now but I plan on pulling the 1st mufflers and subbing in cats.

Sweet! This makes me think I could do a LS swap on my '77 chassis with tons of power, legally.

those are all great ideas, thanks. i was worried about removing the gutters, they are the seam of the upper and lower halves.

Yeah, I am looking to go to the next local PCA to get kicked out. ;)

again thanks for the ideas.

This is a common mod. It was actually done by RUF on their CTR's. I think there's a thread on here from HelmetHead where he did it. It seemed straightforward, if not exactly easy.

Love the car. I think it needs a big grey iron cross graphic on the door and some white and red pinstripes strategically placed on the hood and engine cover...

I would also think you find one of those kaiser-wilhelm style shift knobs from one of the speed shops.

Rebel911 11-09-2011 12:34 PM

I will be cutting the gutters this winter. I will check out the post on here. Thanks for the info.

I just got my new rims.

These are what I went with, I am planning 295/40's on them

I had the car corner weighed with me in it and full tank to get a starting point on how much bracing I can do up front and reach a number closer to 50/50.
Mind you I weigh 195 pounds or 13 stone and 13 pounds.

Loaded the car is now 2597 including me. Caged center and rear of car.
The car's rear weight is 1682# or 64.8% of the total weight.
The load is bias front left back right.
Less my weight it is 2403 pounds.
That breaks bown to ~roughly~:
20%front right 15% front left
31%rear right 34% rear left

Bothari 11-17-2011 03:53 PM

Major coolness on the build, but have you thought about dumping the wing? Makes it look tipped back, IMHO.
Without a tail, the roofline would just floooooow down to the bumper, specially if you're getting rid of the gutters.
I'm thinking something along the lines of the old strosek speedster, check out this post from another thread.

Homegrown 11-18-2011 01:56 AM

If you adjust front torsionbars (easyest) lower on the or higher on th right you will almost be spot on:)

Rebel911 11-18-2011 02:02 AM

Thanks for the ideas. To lose the wing I need to clean up the bumpers. I do like the looks of those cars.

Good call on the suspension. I will be adjusting the it once I get the new wheels on.

Rebel911 01-02-2012 01:28 PM

Just posting some pictures to bring this up to date. These are posts from my local site:

here are a few pics of the "test fit" of the rears I will post up some of the fronts tomorrow. I already started work on the rear.

http://i690.photobucket.com/albums/v...5/e50d3495.jpg

http://i690.photobucket.com/albums/v...5/ec88584c.jpg

here is the difference in the front tires old to new... not that much

http://i690.photobucket.com/albums/v...5/a3893d9b.jpg

http://i690.photobucket.com/albums/v...5/c73a2b83.jpg

Got the fronts on... they stick out some. I wonder what the handling affect will be with the new tires? kinda excited to drive it.

again going from original equipment of 195 to 285 makes a big difference.

The weight difference is ~38 pounds per rim/tire per side on the fronts. I will have to wait and see for the backs when I can pull them.

feel free to give me input but know the car is very far from done as of today. please note the side skirts are not on the car.
