![]() ![]() Since this has been done by others in the past, can someone advise me on what axles/flanges to use with my 915 trans going in a Vanagon? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Len at Autosportengineering dot com ![]() |

Length of axles or size of the CVs? Or are you talking year of Porsche? If you need custom ones, lowbugget helped me out when I did an IRS swap on my bus, spline pattern was the same for me on the axles but I don't know about Porsche/Vanagon stuff. I seem to remember the measurement is cup to cup minus 1/2". Best to work the trailing arm with a jack up and down through the suspension travel range and get a measurement at the tightest point as well.

![]() Need any info available on CVs and axles & lengths. I was told that Jake Raby has a 915 in his transporter, so I emailed him, but no info yet. I was hoping there is a bolt-on combination out there. I am watching "the Samba" board as well. Len ![]() Last edited by BoxsterGT; 01-29-2011 at 09:05 AM.. |

![]() So far, I have learned that ....... Both the VW type 2 and the 915 use 6 bolt x 100mm CV's with a 33 spline ID. Axle length is 22in for the Synchro, dont know if its the same for a 2wd Vanagon. This is a special length when fitted with a 915, so the axles must be made to order. Hope someone else can confirm or refute this info. Len ![]() |

If you do get custom axles you'll probably want the aftermarket Sway-A-way (SAW) type axles though as the CV is allowed to float towards the center of the axle a lot easier than the stock type with the built in stop and ring collar, doesn't bind nearly as much.

![]() ![]() Thank you JadeW- I called SwayAWay and have learned that they keep 22in long 33spline axles in stock (common for off road use) and also learned that early 944 CVs are 100mm dia 6 bolt w 33spline hubs. I have a few used 944 axles around the shop so I will cut & weld one into a 22in length to test fit to the Doka. If it fits I will S/O the new axles from SwayAWay. Cheers, Len ![]() Last edited by BoxsterGT; 01-28-2011 at 09:53 AM.. |
