Trying to get a Value 1984 911
Tracked car with 131000 miles.
Has roll bars, 5 point seat belts etc installed. Original parts are available separately. Dent on the roof. No service records as the owner apparently did all maintenance. Car starts up and sounds fine. Not driven. What's a reasonable price point?? Thanks in advance..... |

Hmm.. dent on roof.. rollover? joking (but only 1/2 joking)
Pics? Some kind of maintenance history (even if oral.. like I changed oil every few events, Calipers rebuilt 2 years ago.. Torsion bars and sways back in 2010? Top end rebuild at 100K miles? something.. Could be $20K or could be $40K. Is it a car you like? how much does he want? How much would it take for you to build the same? Is it competitive for a particular class of racing or is it a bastard of a car.. ie, its sorta a race car but it needs these 10 items to make it work.. or its really just a street car with a rollbar and aftermarket seats?

Thanks or the reply. No clear details are available for review and unsure of the maintenance. Seems to have been raced on the track and then the actual owner passed away and hence no significant details available. There is also some oil leak which is unclear as well to the current owner...
was asking for 30s... i think will need at least 10K for a revamp to its original state and have the entire thing gone over. I agree. seems to be in the 20s or so.. |

I have an 84 3.2. I would pinpoint the oil leak before setting a number. With no records, leak down and compression must be checked, this tells you a great deal. Look at the plugs for signs of oil. Valve guides and head studs are typical culprits w/o rebuild records at 130K miles. look at the case and heads and take pictures.
On the case you want to determine the triangle, oil lines, tensioner gaskets or case seam as the source. Only case seam will necessitate case $plit bottom end since it sounds like it runs well. The rest is top end. On the heads, oil at the can, head and tower are likely stud related. best to drain oil and pull the lower valve covers at a minimum. Exhaust side studs should be verified. Intake are less common. Price a top end and bottom end rebuild. Other while your in there's may include injector rebuild, clutch, gaskets and seals, temp & pressure sensors and more. The range will be dependent on results. Be an educated buyer and drive another well sorted 3.2 car to baseline. 10 k sounds low for a revamp. Do you have roof repair (body and paint) and engine out top end rebuild in that number? Good luck! |
