1972 911 Value more than 71 or 73 ?
Hi All,
A friend has a 1972 911 T Targa -- Question: Is the 1972 911 T a higher value amount than a 1971 or 1973 model given all else is the same ( one owner, West Coast, garaged, etc. ) ?? She is thinking of selling and will be showing the car at a local Classic Porsche show soon - - maybe put the car details in the windshield - - it was written up in Car and Driver a while back. I expect there to be lot of interest given the car's provenance . . . Thanks in advance for any feedback, Regards, Roy T

I would want the 72 |

72's generally are a little more desirable because of the oil door. However in this case the overall condition of the car and the provenance will drive the price

That could be the one M2 is looking for. Doesn't seem like a barn find though.

1972 is IMO the best year of the longhoods. You get the bigger 2.4 engine. You get all the chrome trim. You get a 915 transmission. You get the one-year only oil door with the tank in front of the rear wheels.
That said, all early 911s are fantastic cars to drive. I have had mine 17 years now and love it. I am obviously biased as a 1972 911T targa owner.

Yes, 72 will be worth more than the 70-71 cars. 72&73 have very similar values, with the 2.4l engine and 915 gearbox. If looking for comps, I would consider 73s close enough for trying to figure a ballpark price. And of course the usual caveats of color, and things like S appearance group, etc will determine actual value. Last edited by Matt Monson; 11-10-2021 at 08:52 AM.. |

Thanks Matt for your reply - it clarifies a lot about the difference of pre 1972 and 1972+ . . . these are things I did not think of . . . She has a Hagerty agreed price insurance policy but it may be a few years old since they did the valuation and therefore a bit low in actual value . . . An update might be helpful . . . Take care, Regards, Roy T

Hagerty recently updated a bunch of values on their valuation site. It might be worth looking at the change.

Thanks Matt,
This is great new information . . . It should give my friend a good starting point . . . I was thinking $80K + . . . but, maybe looking at $100K+ . . . because of the one owner, all service records, low miles, no rust, excellent body and original paint, etc. It will depend a lot on her patience to "deal" . . . Regards, Roy T
