How has this not sold?

It's at 1/2 the build money. Has the air left the balloon?

With all the uncertainty with the economy currently a non original car is possibly too much of a gamble?

$117k seems a lot to me for a pre impact bumper car with a later hot rod engine. For that money I'd pick one with a period correct 2.2-2.5 engine and possibly FIA papers, or an impact bumper car with a bigger engine.

I have a 3.2 backdated hot rod and it cost me $50k a couple of years ago when prices were higher. Fully galvanised shell and other benefits.

I too felt like that was a steal. BAT is the way to go on this one.

Over $100k on a non turbo car is a tough ask unless you get 911r to sell it on BAT.

Totally worth the asking, but it's still $117K. You just know how much it takes to get a car to this state and can see the value clearly. Not everybody does. That kind of money is a real commitment.

I'm not a fan of that color either, but I'm sure the car is a blast.

Not really a comp. A backdated Carrera and an original longnose hot rod are two diff markets, even though some people cross shop them.

Always thought some of these asking prices were unrealistic until I started doing a restoration on my ‘74 Lime Green Targa. Being a special paint color and procedure it came in at $45K. Having Al K upgrade my 2.7 to IBT’s and other go fast goodies was another $24K. Tony Garcia did the sport seats for $3600. Suspension upgrades another couple of grand. Restore Fuch rims $2500. Updated audio $1000.00. Lots of other small expenses like weather stripping, new windshield and countless other parts bring it into the range of insanity. Almost like buying the restoration and getting the car for free. Changed my understanding of pricing a car.

After 40 something years of owning my 67, don't want to know what's been spent, probably have about that in mine. Bare metal repaint, motor, tranny were all a lot cheaper back then. I can hardly wait for my MFI rebuild work bill. My guess is it will go for 100-140.

You can't even consider what it cost to build a car when it comes time to sell. You will never ever recover what you spent to build the car to your satisfaction.

Ho-hum color with black Fuchs isn't helping.

I compared them because they're both mongrels to some degree. A period-correct hot engine would add value to a longhood for many buyers, but the longhood has more value to lose than the impact bumper car by being unoriginal and period-incorrect.

I was thinking the same thing. Someone spent a lot of money on that car.

Have you got a $40k engine in yours? Your post sounded like your car is an 84-86 3.2 Carrera as a basis. This car has a 3l converted to 3.2 with big bore short stroke, twin plugs and EFI. I bet it makes close to 300hp.

Recall banned member Harper1137 who was trying to flip Steve Gold's parts and his 2.8 RSR engine? It's the same guy here with the 70 for sale.

Sounds like a lovely engine. I agree that my engine's probably not worth as much as that engine. But that doesn't undermine my premise that period-correct modifications add more value. If I'm wrong maybe it will sell quickly because to my eye, period correct 911R and S/T style hot rods with high revving 2.5l engines are still selling well for strong money.

I think this seams like a decent deal if it's the specs that work for you, donor car + all the work/parts will cost more and it's all done!

Dirt cheap. A steal. Love the color. If everything was done properly and it looks like it was done right, I couldn't build that car for a customer for twice that price. I get more then that in labor for a full resto. Independent Porsche shop rate in Denver now is $100 to $275 an hour depending on what the work is. Porsche dealers are higher. If you're a DIY'er what value do you place on your time away from family or work.
