What is this 71' 912 worth?

Hey, I am new to the forum and signed up to see how much this body and motor might be worth. I used to drive to my lake house and would see this on the side of the road at a junkyard. I didn't think much of it til it moved. I thought the owner sold it, but really he just moved it. So, I asked him about it and apparently, he bought a semi trailer off a guy. The trailer was locked and he just bought the trailer and everything in it. This porsche 912 happened to be in it. No paperwork. It has many parts, the motor tranny, 3 gauge base model, etc.

Obviously, most people say stay away from Porsches with rust problems. This one just seems savable. My questions are:

Would you buy it?

Would you take it back to original?

Where are the VIN numbers located?

Thanks.

New York. It's not mine yet. How can you tell it is a '65? I thought that they were only made '65 to '69 and then in 1976 as well.

That would cost more to bring back than you will ever be able to sell it for, imo.

Best thing about it is the front fenders... looks like the hood is missing, windshield missing, plus who knows what else... Will cost $40K+ to restore, and that ain't concours~ so it's pretty much a parts car. I'd give like $1000-$1500 tops including motor which is probably a boat anchor~

Looks like a 356 gas tank was stuffed in there before the guy moved it.
Get the chassis number and engine number.

Yes. It's just parts.

But some of those parts could be pretty desirable.

I would be in the 500$ range if that. That is most likely a pile of rust waiting to disintegrate.

There is an engine included. It's a 4 cyl, but don't know if it is original. Does this raise your estimate?

Depends on the type number, serial number, and if it is as rusty as the car.

Looks like a 4 gauge dash. That's somewhat unique. Somebody would buy just the dash to build a car that's different than everything else out there.
