86 targa value

I have been out of the carrera market for a number of years, and looking to purchse a 3.2. Looking at the current pricing, it seems the market has changed quite a bit.

I am looking at a 1986 3.2, 3 owner car with full service records, original paint in very good condition, and 79K. The car is somewhat of a unique color, white gold metallic, which I actually like.

The interior is in immaculate condition, showing no signs of wear. The car just had a full service, and the targa top and seals have been redone. The 915 shifts as well as can be expected, and the car feels nice and tight.

Given a clean PPI, what would be a fair value for this car?

Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

Mid-20k's maybe as high as 28k.

It sounds like a $30K plus car to me if it is as nice as you say it is. Great miles, clean, original, unique color, and well-documented all add up to putting it a notch above the average Carrera targa.

These cars are all over the map in terms of value and what people are willing to pay. They are emotional/impulse/discretionary buys so color plays a big part. White Gold is probably not on most buyer's list of colors they want, but IMHO condition and originality trump color.

Hagerty, not the authority, but a point of reference puts a Condition 3 car at 23700 and condition 2 at 38600.

It sounds like a nice car, anything near the Condition 3 number would be a good deal and a fair deal under 30. I'd be hesitant to go over that given the color and mileage, not because it will wear out, but strictly on values... if you like it and can get it within your budget, go for it!

I don't think 30 is the number. Stay in the 20'S and you should do ok assuming a good ppi.

Low mileage, flawless interior, very good paint, uncommon color, full records bring it closer to a condition 2 car imo.
So low 30's sounds about right.
What's the interior color ?

The targa top redo alone costs hundreds.

The interior color is brown, which is not my first choice. I almost bought an 84 M491 coupe in the color combo back in 2005 for $22k, still kicking myself for not picking it up....

IMO Brown is the perfect color match for the white gold paint. Good find.

I assume the ppi went well and everything's in working order, for the 30k+ estimate.
Updating an average interior to an immaculate one can easily cost thousands. Same with the 'minor' defects, if any, and usual AC issues etc.

In my opinion, not the best color combo. Perhaps hold out for the right one? That could take forever though. Because of the color I would think 26-27k if it is truly all there.

Agree. White gold -- and gold cars in general -- are probably the least popular colors. But brown seats go very well.

You sometimes find gold cars with white seats -- which are dreadful, and age terribly.

Straight stock, all original, low miles, redone Targa, sound transmission -- it is hard to get into a car like that under $30k -- especially if the car is local.

You might find one cheaper, what what are the acquisition costs? Finding a good car at the right time in the right location is worth paying a small premium.
