Adios, old friend...
My car's new home will be Istanbul. As some of you know, I haven't really been getting a lot of enjoyment out of the car for the past several years. Much of it because the clubs scene is too full of poseurs, strippers, flippers, etc.
So, Evren & I had a nice phone conversation today. My car is going where it will end up forever out of the hands of those who know the price of everything and the value of nothing. This has been promised, and I trust Evren to be a man of his word. The car will never leave Turkish soil, probably passed on to one of Evren's children. This isn't a car sale guys. It's the passing on of a once loved family heirloom to a dear friend. Another factor is that I'm not getting any younger. I recently had a phone conversation with a widow in her 70's. She packing all the spare parts, manuals, old PANOS, etc. Getting ready to ship a 1960 Roadster to Europe, where it will have a new home in the hands of a younger family. During the conversation, she said that she had begged her husband to sell the car and the parts before he died. For over a decade, she begged him. But, they'd owned the car since 1963, he just couldn't bear to part with it. So, he passed on this burden to his widow. For 3 years, she couldn't touch a thing...it was still too emotional for her. Finally, she has decided to let go. This lady was crying when she told me this. That's when it hit me between the eyes. I don't want to do that to Cindy. So, the decision to clean everything out while I'm still healthy, and able to do it. I'm kind of looking forward to life as a non car guy...but I'll hang on to many fond memories. Dat's all, folks.. Oh, can I still post here? ![]()

Your a good man pwd.
Best of luck to the new owner. I'm hoping to start a auto museum sometime in the future to preserve the cars for our kids to see. I'm hoping there will be some people that will display their cars in the museum to add to the variety.

Dang.
I love that car. Sad to know I'll never see it again. At least it's in good hands.

I never thought I'd see the day. It's a beautiful car Paul. You should be proud to have kept her in such great shape all these years.

Paul,
Hate to see you get rid of the car but if you feel that its time, then finding a good home for it is the correct way to do things. Evren would sure appreciate it. How is his car doing BTW? Joe PS We would kick your ass if you tried to not post here! ![]()

I didn't think it would be this soon! I thought you'd be getting fun out of driving it for a few years (which depends on the club scene not at all). You can always get rides in a hacked up blue car if you want....
I hope you will consider a Boxster - it is different but still fun; and they are cheap. Bruce Anderson drives one now. Advancing age doesn't mean you have to do w/o a Porsche even if it makes you less willing to have an older 911. Thanks again for the magazines, Paul. I've got about 4 people identified (4 good people) who will get some fraction of them. Also, take some pics of it going into the transport truck - I did that with my first blue car, and wish I had taken more pics.

Paul,
I don't know that we have talked much on this board, but I have always loved to look at that one picture of your car. The one with the green trees, the green grass and that beautify green car! Could you post the picture once more? I am glad you are not "selling" it. It sounds like your friend will take care of it just as you would. I hope you remain active on the board. You have a great sense of humor and keep us all grounded. Mark

Wow, Paul. Evren is one lucky man. I have never met him, but with you vouching for him here, and in our past dealings, it sounds like your car could not possibly be going to a better home. I'm happy for him; it sounds like he appreciates its true value as opposed to the monetary value of such a car. Please stay in touch. Have Evren send pictures when it arrives.

Holy Mother of God!!! Not your Irish Green '72?... It is?! That is absolutely the car of my dreams.
Paul, You're a better man than I am. I'm not sure I COULD part with that particular car. Please hang with us after it is gone. You have a lot of knowledge to offer the board. I would have hated to see that car in the hands of flippers. I hope it is always cared for in the manner you cared for it. Best to you, Dan

I feel like saying "my condolances" Paul. Looks like what I said before will be true. It'll be known from this point forward as the "Paul Donkin" car.
![]() It was a strong decision, no doubt about it. I commend you for it. Cheers,

Very impressive, my friend!
![]() Wow! I, too, thought it would be a while longer but your reason makes perfect sense. I'm not sure what else to say. Oh, HELL YEAH you can still post here! I would imagine many, many folks would miss you if you left us for good. God speed to your ESS, good health to you and Cindy, congratulations to Evren. Wow. Oh, btw, I can only imagine what the vultures (guys waiting for you to sell!) are going to say! HA!

The emotion expressed shows a true Porsche owner's love for their car. Flipper, strippers, etc will never understand that.

That's a happy story that I'm sad to hear, if that makes any sense. You and Evren met through this board, didn't you? The car will be missed in the U.S., but it sounds like it will be valued by its new owner in Turkey.
Don't be a stranger to the BBS, Paul. The car may be gone, but your knowledge of it and your perspective are still very valuable to the rest of us.

It's a sad day when a person who enjoys cars so much decides to sell his/her pride and joy, but I do understand. My 72 (tobluforu) for the most part just sits in my garage now seeing maybe 50 miles a month, but she still starts on a dime every time. Makes me want to sell her to someone who would enjoy it more, but......
Take care and good luck. There will always be other 72 owners out there like myself who will need insight/help from you on this board so keep posting. Take care
