1975 Carrera RS?
I meet a fellow with a 1975 Carrera RS, big tail, flares, and according to the owner plenty of HP. He said he didn't know how many hp it had, and niether did the factory when he had asked them.
Afterwards I got a little curious and checked my books but I can't find any reference.... he could have been wrong... Anyone know if there ever were such a car?

Wouldn't that be the 3.0 rs? 230 h.p. with way more goodies than the 2.7 rs. If it is the real deal, that is a desirable car.

I don't have a VIN or even a good memory of how it looked. I just walked by it and thought "Just an turbolook SC/Carrera with an Carrera RS sticker on the wing". It had a regular interior, but with a Carrera RS sticker on the glove box, no Carrera scripting in the side of the car.
It wasn't before I happend to meet the owner a little later I realized it might have been a special car. I could have made him for it....

If the body is original, then it has to be a Carrera 3.0RS. They were the first streetable cars w/ widebody.
The tipoff will be the brakes, that was the first street use of the 917 type 4 piston calipers under 8" and 9" Fuchs shod w/ Pirelli CN36 tires. and seats, very deep Sheel(sp?) type racing buckets were used. Most of them had no glove box door, clock or radio(they did leave the cig lighter and ashtray in thouugh) but all regular S items could be had. If you can get a really close look they also had thicker t-bars, crosbar between shock towers and adjustable sways A very desireable car and rare if so. The first 15 went tp Penske for the original IROC series. homologation wt. 1990#

I've read that even with more horsepower, the Carrera RS 3.0 was no faster - top speed-wise - than the RS 2.7; it was felt the wider arches were the culprit.
Any ideas? Did the RS 3.0 use the standard '76 915 gearbox?

Would you belive I walked by it with a camera in my hand and didn't take a picture.... Thought it was nothing special, there was over 300 other porsches beside it, including some beautiful pre 73 cars, 73 carrera rs and the new 997, of which I have pictures.

Magnus;
BTW, just because someone tells me that a car is a (fill in the blank) doesn't mean that I necessarily believe him -- although I will be polite and inquisitive none-the-less. I was at a local ice cream stand with my daughters and my 911 and another guy shows up with a big-bumpered 911. It was twilight and I couldn't leave the girls, so I asked him what it was. He told me with a straight face that it was a 'Turbo". "Oh" I said looking at the narrow flares and the lack of a tail. After more conversation, he told me that his other car was a Dekon Monza. "Oh yeah, I've heard about them" I said thinking of Al Hobert and the IMSA cars that gave Carreras such a hard time in the mid-70's. By the time that I got down to the end of my dish of ice cream I learned that his Turbo was a late 70's SC with some sort of a turbo charger on it from the PO, but he didn't know the details. His "Dekon Monza" was merely a street Monza with some Dekon style body panels. Hardly one of the handful of cars with IMSA or Trans Am history ![]() The point of the story is that in regards to the special "one-off" cars that many people claim to own, I'm from Missouri. Show me. PS: As a footnote, there is a real Porsche Turbo about half a mile froom that ice cream stand. I have yet to stop and and say hi.

Yes, I know it could have been BS but I don't think so, usually you can feel for it.
Well, its not much I can do about it...
