Air injection
Ok my car is equipped with an air injection system and when I removed it from the cylinders the d***n distribuiton pipe snapped off. Rusty as it could be without falling apart so it had to be replaced anyway.
Im trying to find out how much it is and the part number but it seems that this air injection system is not that common ?! Its well documented in the Haynes manual so there should be hope. Anyone ? |

Do you need to re-install it for emission testing? If not , remove the entire injection system. Replace the air injectors with brake caliper plugs that are used on a 914.

Interesting point, will check on that. Does the removal do anything to the performance ?

Remove the air pump, the belt, the whole tubing assembly, check valve, air injectors and plug those holes per jadams1.
I also got rid of the EGR 20 years ago as well. Basically removed the vacuum lines from the EGR valve and throttle body and then capped the two throttle body nipples. Removed the EGR filter from the muffler and tube running to the EGR valve. Left the actual valve in place as it is now inoperative and doesn't interfere with anything. After adjusting the CIS, performance is improved.

Here's a pic of the caliper plug next to the injector and what the plugged injector holes look like.

Brandett,
I do not know how emissions testing works in Sweden but here in New York they are stricter for newer cars and lenient for older cars. A little trick that I have used when a car does not pass the 1st time, only do this if it does not pass on it's own the 1st time. Run the car down as close to empty as you can, put in a few litres of the highest octane gas you can get and run it down to empty again, or however much gas you need to get to the inspection station and someplace to gas it up again. Do a complete tune up, plugs, air filter, distributor cap and rotor at least. Do not drive the car except to go to the inspection. Dump in a couple of cans of dry gas before you get to the inspection station. Dry gas contains a lot of alcohol which burns extremely clean. Should pass just fine. Fill the car up with gas as soon as you can and go along your merry way. NOTE: I have never done this on a 911 so if there is something specific about these motors that make it a bad idea please chime in. Scott

Ja, du kan plocka av luftpumpen, den går igenom besiktningen utan problem.
In English: Yes, they can be removed and holes plugged with either brake-bleeding plugs or with special tapered hex plugs that can be bought from England for 1Ģ a piece. My car went trough swedish smog-check w/o problems. Only thing they check up to 88' is CO. Here is short guide with pictures: Stupid guide of fitting emmision plugs in three steps...

Not factory. The Turbo kit was a BAE Rajay Turbo from BAE in Torrance CA. They are long out of business as the only reason they were in business was that 1979 was the last 930 and people thought there would not be any more turbos at all so in 1980-88 or so the game was to turbo the 911SCs. I put the kit in in 1982.

I am about to go down to the Hardware store and look for these Plugs.
I am not clear on the dimensions though. Can someone help me out on the three dimensions noted on this diagram ![]() |

The length isn't critical. By their nature "plugs" are never very long. I don't think your hardware store would have them but maybe you'll luck out. This is what I would try:
- a metric fastener store, possibly mail order - Mercedes dealer - these plugs are used for Mercedes transmissions or at least they used to be. - Get 10x1.0 bolts cut them in pieces, clean up the threads and cut a screw driver slot in the back. I'd cut them off about 10mm long, screw them in a little below flush and stake the edge in a couple of places so the plug can never back out. (I've use this method in an emergency.) Post your finding so the rest of your buddies Down Under will know what you find out. -Chris
