Another RSR Clone Project - Update 8
I've had the car home now for a couple of weeks. Latest progress includes brush painting the underside with the same signal orange paint as on the body. I've also completed the installation of the suspension and brakes. Here's the latest pictures:
![]() ![]() I am using the Elephant Racing polybronze bushings and monoballs all around with 23/31 hollow t-bars, JRZ raised spindle adjustable struts, aluminum cross member and rear control arms and Bilstein sport rear shocks. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The installation of the polybronze and monoballs was a breeze. Chuck seems to have engineered a very good product. All of the reports I've read indicate that they will ride and handle as good as they look and installed. The only difficulty I had was the installation of the larger rear t-bars. The holes in the flared fenders did not line up perfectly with the t-bar openings in the body making for a very tight fit. Next I'll be tackling the rewiring and reinstallation of all of the electrcal components. The engine is out for machine work and should be ready for the reassembly in about 1 month. The gearbox with LSD and short gears is complete. I am still targetting to have the car ready for the Parade in Hershey and have registered to show it in the concours. Keep your comments and suggestions coming. They are part of the inspiration to complete the project on time. |

Simply AWESOME......
Are the rotor holes (cross drilled) on the other side pointing in the same direction? It looks like you have the right and left sides switched. On the left side of the car, (as shown) the holes should spiral backwards (or to the right) from the center.

Amazing. Porsche painted some areas of the bottom matt black, so when you looked at the car from the side it would make the body under the rockers less prominent. You should do that. Perhaps someone with a concours original car can post the areas that should be black.

Man that thing looks so clean it is almost a shame to dirty it by driving it on the road.
I did say almost though ![]() Looks awesome. I haven't really liked many cars in bright orange but that one is a beauty. Keep us posted.

Stunning.......
- as to the problem fitting the rear bars through the holes of the ( presumably added) rear flairs..... .....look at the Gunnar Racing site, where they say they insert a rod or broomstick in the TB inner mount, so that the stick pokes through the newly-added rear flairs as the flairs are fitted. They allude that if you don't do this....everything seemingly lines up but then ( Ta da !)...the TB's can't go through the body hole because it's off-center...arrgh! Wil

Less than 100 posts and you come up with that crap? Go away. Never come back. You are a troll of the worst kind. (Interpretation: That car looks amazing! Shame on you for making me jealous.)

![]() The paint is awesome. Is it two stage or one stage. It looks like it might be two stage.

I don't think I'd be able to bring myself to drive it.
I'd just want to sit in the garage and stare.

Thanks for all your comments. They keep me motivated.
Relative to your questions: The paint is Glasurit 2 stage urethane. I stripped the car except for the underside where I left the original undercoating. The body, trunk & engine compartments and fender wells were painted at Auto Associates. I used the same paint, unthinned, with the hardener mixed in to brush paint the underside. I constructed a psuedo paint booth in the garage using a window fan and some tarp to isolate the working bay. I've been studying the Gunnar restorations of RSR's and they paint the underside body color. I like the look of the orange underneath. The brake rotors are Zimmermans and are the same left and right. I don't know of any reason why they should not be. I can't think of any aerodynamic effect that would relate to the hole pattern and direction of rotation. Am I missing something? The engine will be a pump gas 3.0 lt based on a 1978 case. I'll be using ported twin plug heads with the original dizzy modified for twin plug by Gerry Woods, Mahle RSR 10.5:1 P&C's, GE-60 cams from John Daugherty, 46MM PMO's and RSR headers. I'm thinking about 300 HP with about 2000 lbs curb weight. |

Oh My God, that is my freakin dream car, my absolute dream. In Orange too. I would LOVE to be putting that thing together one loving piece at a time.
Congratulations, it is great to know that there are guys that actually get to do the things many of us dream about. Total, total congrat's, enjoy the HELL out of it for all of us! Please show us pictures to completion and some final wallpaper-quality pix on some beautiful leafy winding road in the spring.
