Post accident observation

I recently totalled my 911 and I'm starting to see a pattern in the emails I recieve.

First email: "Oh I was worried. Glad you're OK"
(then a respecful pause before the)
2nd email: "Totalled you say? What are you going to do with the wreck?"
3rd email: "If you decide to buy the car back I want the X's and Y's for my car."

It's kinda funny. I'm the same way. It's all I can do not to approach some poor guy at a DE who has balled up his car and ask for his parts before the car is even cold.

-Chris

Jackals and Hyenas always bark soft when they first approach...

I'm assuming you'd rather not share your story about how it happened...? Details man, details...

I'd just want it back for parts from the insurance company so I could get on with building the next one...

I was riding my snowmobile one year and watched a guy roll his brand new Polaris sled down this big hill, It was bent in Half and the guy was standing there Bleeding and licking his wounds,(no insurance) This guy rode up and wondreed if he wanted to part it out he needed this and that, He was to beat up to beat him up but wanted to so I think there some of that in all of us, I was thinking that but kept my mouth shut

Chris,

I'll take your fuchs if they are 8's and 9's!!!! Sorry for the bad, dry humor!

Seriously, I was 'almost' one of the vultures who tried to inquire on parts on a similar story about 3-4 months ago. However, self-control overcame and I did not inquire. It is hard to control oneself.

I honestly have not done the 'vulture maneuver' on anyone with mishaps. However, we should probably give people some slack as they could theorize that if you are well enough to post, maybe you're ok and ready to make a little $ out of your wreck.

Opinions only.

Sorry about your car. Hope u remain a Porsche freak and a Pelicanite.

I went wide coming down the downhill at LRP. I couldn't pull it into the apex and then is starts bouncing over those um "moguls" there. I rotated in and hit the right side tire wall before pit in. Probably should brake on the downhill...
The impact seemed pretty hard but I suppose that's subjective.
Fortunately, the horns on my helmet were undamaged.
I wish I had a way to digitize the in car camera video.
-Chris

This was on-track? Do you have track insurance or is your normal carrier handling this?

So, when is it appropriate to inquire? You could interpret that the folks are trying to help you out by throwing money at you. Maybe you could start some kind of registry for when you're ready.

The snowmobile thing was crass. But after a week, or by email, and the 3rd one at that, I don't see quite the boorish act.

Just park it on the street, place some broken glass and porsche part around it and call the police to fill out a police report that someone sideswap your car.

P.S. Oh you may want to remove the roll bar.

Exactly my experience when I totalled an SC a few years ago. I was looking for help with insurance, police reports and such but instead got inquiries about parts.

Is this why you are buying the roller?

And, as an instructor, can you offer any insight on what to do in that "loop around to the inside wall" scenario? I've seen several like that at Lime Rock and Summit Point. SP is concrete, though. :-(

I take it you didn't read the thread on integrity.
Insurance should cover it. No need to commit fraud.

Tod,
Looking at your web site is inspiring me to make a track car. The Mrs probably won't let me go to the track anymore so I'll probably get a street car.

Ouch, that sucks, hopefully things will work out in your favor. Just another reminder that stuff can happen.

Nope didn't read the thread on integrity, but did read the thread on insurance companies not covering DE.

News Flash: Hagerty does not cover cars at DEs!
